What am I dealing with here?
So I see something has been enjoying eating my tomato leaves.
uploadfromtaptalk1445775099369.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1445775118396.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1445775142294.jpg So when I turned the leaves over I found a green worm here and there which I squished. Some of the leaves also had some black spots (eggs maybe?). On some of the leaves there are some small black insects but no worms that I could see. What am I dealing with here and what is the best course of action..? I also saw a few aphids trying to establish themselves. I want to give my tomatoes the best chance possible this year as last year was a disaster on my side. Any input is appreciated. Last edited by Zenbaas; October 25, 2015 at 02:03 PM. |

Could they be Flea Beetles?
I would cut all of the lower infested leaves and stems and doctor the rest. Worth |

The black spots are the probably the excrement(frass, crap you get it)of those worms you dispatched. If you found more than a couple on each leaf they just morphed from the soil and are on their way up the plant each evening and get larger and chew larger holes as they get larger. When they are big/bold enough they will camouflage(green and brown)and stay hidden underneath leaves and blend right in.Here they are known as Tomato/Tobacco hornworms. They will morph into a moth and start all over again.Soil drench will your favorite "dispatcher"will kill them in ground.Nightime monitoring(underleaf flashlight)will confirm identity.
Second image might be these little buggers. http://scribol.com/environment/how-s...l-insect-pests
