Blowing right by several varieties named "Early". Matt's Wild Cherry was the only thing to beat it, but, of course, that's with far tinier fruit.

How is the flavor?

Disclaimers: I've tasted two Coles: both could've been riper, and the plants have been drinking volumes of rainwater.

Fresh, inoffensive, mild, modest, moderately pulpy, juicy enough, balanced acidity, subtle sweetness. Its appeal, aesthetics, container comfort, and earliness all make it a keeper for me.

I hope that's helpful and that Cole_Robbie and others might add tasting notes, especially since there doesn't seem to be much info online.

I liked it a lot. It has "real tomato" flavor, and the flesh is meaty; it's not all seeds and juice.

I'm glad you liked it, Swellcat. With a lot of rain, the flavor of any variety is going to be watered-down.

Having tasted a third Cole this morning—one from a different, in-ground plant—I agree.

That's exactly what I'd expect from reading just a bit on grape-growing and wine-making. A watered-down Cole still beats the hail out of anything from the grocery store, though.

I picked my first Cole today. It was from the outdoor garden, and is going to beat most of the plants in the high tunnel to ripen.

She would certainly fetch it. We have done that before. Green ones last longer.

Thank you. That's a 55-200mm Nikon lens zoomed to 175mm. Depth of field was still a bit narrow at ƒ/10 and 1/100. (I think the green-tomato shot is better, but I'll give myself an E for effort.)

These images make me want to break out the lens and re-learn how to use it right.
