Default Dutchman??????????

I am growing what I thought was the Dutchman.
This doesn't look like the photo's I've seen of it. I thought it was a red. This is definately a yellow with red bottom and it's fluted. Any help on this out there?

Dutchman is variously described in the YEarbooks by SSE members as dark pink or reddish pink or red. I grew it so many years ago it's hard for me to remember but I think it was a dark pink/

But what you show is a typical gold/red bicolor and since there are maybe around 100 named varieties of that type there's no way to ID it as a specific variety.

If seeds were purchased you can look to see if that source carried any gold/red bicolors. If they were traded seeds there's no way to know what you have as to a specific variety. It does look more fluted than bicolors I've grown or seen pictures of.

LOL Don't worry Mark, it wasn't from you. I know exactly where I got this seed and I won't embarrass the person even though I don't think they visit this board. It was probably an innocent mistake.

Except for the ribbing, it looks very similar to the Mr. Stripey I have growing.

Is this the very first one to ripen? Are you sure the tomato is completely ripe yet? Have you cut one yet to see? The pictures remind me of either a sunscalded tomato or one with physiological damage, like I experienced with Prudens Purple a few years ago.

Hi tomatoaddict,
it looks very similar to Ananas, or striped german or dewese streaked. Some fruit may be ribbed like yours.

All of the mators on the plant look like this. It's weird. It is definately not a red tomato. It's more yellow with a red bottom.

Yes, but have you actually harvested and cut one open yet?

I know this sounds weird, but they are all mushy. Unless I pick it green. It's like they are rotted or something. I've picked at least 7 of them and they're all like that.

What happens when you pick them green?

It sounds like the plant could have been a victim of sublethal sunscald, or another physiological yellowing. Did you have a period of extremely high heat back in June or early July when the plant was still young and first setting fruit?
