Default Biggest and Best Tasting Tomato Competition Tomorrow

If anyone lives anywhere near Upland CA there will be a competition for the Biggest and Best Tasting Tomato tomorrow at 10 am at Mt. Fuji Garden Center 1555 West Foothill Blvd. I have about 8 different cherries and 4 or so larger tomatoes i will be entering in the competition. Not sure how many applicants there will be but i have a few secret weapons in my arsenal and i think i got a pretty good shot at the Best Tasting catergory. First prize gets a Trophy and a 25 dollar gift certificate.

Sounds fun! Are the winners chosen by a panel of judges, or voted by the public?

HTG,

You will be seriously tough competition!

Do we need to handicap you to give others a chance?

Have fun

Carl

Alright everyone so the tomatoes were judged by a panel of three, two of which were brothers who owned the nursery as well as the wife of one of the owners. First prize in each category recieved a trophy as well as a 20 dollar gift certificate. Second prize won a red ribbon and a 15 dollar certificate. Third won a white ribbon and a 10 dollar certificate. Both my Wife and I as well as my 6 year old twin Son and Daughter entered 1 tomato each in both catergories. It was pretty small but there were about a dozen or so of us that entered tomatoes. I felt kind of bad but we swept the competition and won every prize. In the largest tomato catergory we were the only ones who entered so it was an easy win. I had not even planned on entering the largest competition but entered a few of the larger tomatoes for fun. I won First with a Moya Noire, my daughter won second with a RAF Fimande, and my Son won third with a Sgt. Pepper. Woohoo. As for the tastiest competition I won First with Esterina F1, my Wife won Second with one od Dan Follett's experimental micro dwarfs (11/12×F3-3 PL), and my Daughter won third with Sun Gold F1. When they announced the winners of the heaviest tomato prizes everyone clapped for my kids and i but when they announced the winners of the tastiest tomatoes the crowd went silent. Thats when i started feeling bad because there were some sweet older ladies in the crowd. They were nice but the others went cold. Who new a small tomato competition would be so serious. Anyway i had fun and my kids, especially my Son who really helps me in the garden, said "Dad winning the ribbon changed my life". Im not going to lie he got me a bit misty. It was the way he said it and the tone he used it really warmed my heart. Any how here are some pics of our win. In the tomato picture ours were the 4 on the right side.

Congrats dude! Awesome that your kids are involved. I wouldn't feel bad, I mean your tomatoes are better because of the effort you put in. Those trophies are cool as well. I need me a tomato trophy
