2024 Grow List

It's strange to not see anyone's grow list posted yet, do I guess I'll post mine to get some of you people out of the woodwork.

After 45 years of growing tomatoes my list has finally shrunk down to these 6 varieties for 2024: SOTW, Dester, AGP, Rebel Yell, Daniel Burson, and Rosovye Krupnye. The older I get the shorter my list gets. I only have 4 or 5 varieties left on my Bucket list.

I was just telling my partner the other day that if I had to, I could whittle my list down to these favorites: Benevento F1 and Polaris for tomato sandwiches, Purple Boy F1 for a reliable tasty medium tomato, and for cherries, Rosella cherry and Chocolate Sprinkles F1. All of these did very well last year despite the root-knot nematodes in some beds. A month ago I planted Kodiak mustard, which is nematocidal if it's chopped and incorporated into the soil at the right time.


Here's what I'm actually seeding this year, in addition to those 5:

striped/multi: Belle du College, Magic Bullet, Pink Berkeley Tie Dye, Prairie Fire, Talvez F1, Thorburn's Terra Cotta, Maglia Rosa, Taste Patio, Girl Girl's Weird Thing

dark: Black Plum, Carolina Dusk, Cowboy, Daifuku, One Trick Pony, Raya Rey, Reinhard Kraft's Purple Sugar

pink: Damsel F1, Pink Champagne, Pink CherryWine F!, Pink Jazz, African Queen, Pruden's Purple, Raspberry Lyanna

red: Franchi's Red Pear, Granny's Throwing, Jersey Breeze, Sheboygan, Bush Early Girl F1, Cherry Falls, Picus F1, Ruby Slippers, Beefy Red, Belmonte Pear, Legend, Sweet Aperitif, Tommy Toe

Very nice list, lots of variety! I hope you will enjoy mine and Its nice to see a number of Fred Hempel tomatoes on your list. I’ll be growing out quite a few as well.

That's a nice list. Daniel Burson is a dark tomato. You have it listed as pink.

Also, Goose Creek is a pink tomato, not red.

Yes, I think it is pink, but know there was some thread on here a long time ago about whether the original source was red or pink. I think the one I have is actually pink (translucent skin), but I had it in my spreadsheet as a red (yellow skin). I haven't grown it in years, so I'll confirm it this season.

I already have seedlings outside the window at home, which I will plant under glass in a cold frame around March 25. The larger ones at the back are the parthenocarpic varieties Gold Nugget, Oregon Spring, Oregon Eleven, Oroma, Santiam and Siletz. The ones in front are shrubs Sophie's Choice, Maglia Rosa, Jagodka, Sarayev Shtambovyi, Mongolian Karlik, Lyana Rozovaya and Vspyschka.
In a fortnight I will sow the seeds of Indeterminate varieties, which I will plant freely in the garden beds after May 15. I have the following seeds ready:

2023 was so bad if I didn't show some early enthusiasm I may not even try gardening for a while. So earliest ever list of tomatoes and peppers:
