Muddy Bucket Farm First Fruits of 2015
Finally got a couple of ripe fruit. These are from those larger plants that I purchase every year to get early tomatoes. First one is a 7 oz Better Boy and the second one is a 9 oz Empire. I haven't even cleaned them up yet. They still have some of the garden dustiness on them.
just took these out of the garden and am happy that I am eating "home grown" this early in my growing season. There are several more that are breaking some color and I just told the DW that she can take tomatoes off the shopping lists until further notice - probably some time in late October or, hopefully, November.

Those look scrumptious! I bet you feel good to finally have some real fruits to eat after all the hard work. I probably would have sat in the garden and scarfed down the first one all by myself. : )
What is Empire like? Looks nice. I have seed for it, just haven't gotten to try that one yet? Hope you have a whole season full of tomatoes. : ) |

Beautiful Ted. I have a few ripe cherries myself. They look delicious.

Starlight, I'll let you know in a day or so about Empire. It's the first time I've grown it, so I'll have to wait for a good tasting, etc.
Garrett, the rest of my tomato plants (excepting the large ones I purchased) are heavy into the blooming and some have set fruit, Again, this is why I purchase a few larger mature plants each year. There have been years when I'm still putting plants into the garden on June 5th. This year, I've got 163 OP tomato plants which I've raised from seed, and 4 hybrid plants purchased for early tomatoes. It's just the easiest way for me to go. I mean, $2.50 for a 24-30 inch plant with fruit already set is my kind of bargain. They were in the ground for 32 days when I harvested the first fruit.
