Weird potato plant is growing tomatoes.
I have a small potato patch and one of my plants seems to be growing tomatoes. I know potato leaves are poison so the fruit probably is too. Is this normal?

Potato plants bloom and if pollinated they will develop berries/fruit with seeds, that’s what these are. They are not edible, toxic in fact but seeds can be saved and planted if you are inclined but it’s a project for sure.

for sure search for the potato seed thread... (I have no idea who started it) but it goes into great detail on growing potatoes from the true seed. it is not a project for the faint of heart timewise. it takes dedication to the project.

The seeds are usually called TPS..true potato seeds, ihey will grow but they don't come true to the parent spud. You can get some interestig new varieties of poatoes from them of your own if you keep the potatoes grown from the TPS and grow them they result will be the same as it;s parent and you can name them. getting th seeds out, some folks use the blender.
Not all potatp varieties put out seeds so you are lucky. Please google and find more about them Even on here I think you will too, just search TPS https://growtruepotatoseed.wordpress...0these%20seeds. Last edited by Jeannine Anne; July 31, 2020 at 04:49 AM. |

I saw many potato berries as a child, and ate some too, when they were dead ripe, a bit spicy and slightly sweet, not really comparable to tomatoes. Nobody ever harvested them as seed stock for future potatoes.
