A guy near me who grows 7 acres of garlic sells scapes in a bag with a label for $4.99.
It holds 4 ounces of scapes. I throw mine on the ground after I pull them. They are not worth the time to drive around selling them. If I was in a market every week though, I'd probably bunch about 10 stems together and put a rubber band around them and sell them for 3-4 dollars. When you add it all up though, is it worth the labor for how many you end up selling? |

Always interesting to see the difference in different places.. a bundle of 5 scapes sells for $3 at our markets here.

Old thread I know.. but I can't imagine throwing garlic scapes on the ground. That's my favorite part of the plant and the whole reason I grow garlic. I can get bulbs anywhere, scapes I can only get a few times a year. I grill them, or throw in food processor and make a garlic scape pesto. Or mix with butter for a nice garlic spread. As for the what they are worth, they sell for about $2 a bunch at my local market. That's maybe 5-10 scapes. Given a whole bulb typically only sells for $1, I would think selling the scapes would boost profit about 25%.
