Atkinson
Looking at the few tomato plants that our Walmart has received and noticed they were selling Atkinson. Never seen that one on sale before.

Atkinson is still in big demand around here. I grew about 500 plants this year for local sales.

Now that we're further into the season, does anyone have any additional comments about Atkinson?

Atkinson Tomato Seed
Atkinson Tomato
70 days. (Indeterminate) (fw1,rkn,gls) [Introduced 1966 for hot humid areas by Auburn U.] An excellent producer of 8-16 oz flattened globular red fruit on vigorous plants with heavy foliage. Large fruits are meaty with good color and flavor, perfect for fresh market or the home garden. Production was discontinued after about seven years. Friend, Ella, a member at Dave’s Garden, searched for this variety and found an unopened canister in a small shop in Alabama and shared seed with me and others. I shared seed with Merlyn Niedens, grower for Baker Creek and Southern Exposure Seed Exchange; he listed it with them. Merlyn died unexpectedly two months ago. He was my mentor and friend and friend to all gardeners and grower/keeper of many wonderful heirloom varieties. Atkinson was one of the top rated tomatoes at our SETTFest tasting this year.
