Moreton Progress

We seemed to be excited about Moreton and Ramapo earlier and I haven't heard much since. I'm still excited. This Moreton went into the garden with no blossoms. It's been rainy/drizzly/cloudy for the last 3 weeks. It's the earliest of anything.

Beauty Queen got a headstart and was planted with a tiny fruit.

(Yes, eggshell barrier to eviscerate slugs and snails who attempt attack.)

I have 2 Ramapo plants in. One is in the ground and one in a pot. Pretty plants but very few blossoms. No fruit set yet. Goose Creek, Rostova, Marianna's Peace, Polish, C-Tex, EPB, Yellow Brandywine, Persimmon, Crnkovic Yugoslavian, Cuostralee and 3 different cherries all have fruit. All plants went in the same day (give or take a day). I'll let you know later in the season as to how Ramapo turns out.

Ramapo is coming on strong. The one in the ground is about 4 feet tall with numerous stems, blossoms and small tomatoes. Should know how they taste in about a month.

My Ramapo is the largest and nicest looking plant in my garden, of 24 plants. It has many nice looking green fruit and I hope they taste as good as they look when they ripen.

I also have a Morton........not nearly as nice as the Ramapo so far. Hope it improves.

Here is the lower half of one of my Ramapo plants. It is setting fruit like crazy. As of today it and Crnkovic Yugoslavian have the most tomatoes (out of 16 varieties). Ramapo and Sun Gold are my only hybrids this year and both will be back based on production alone.

Picked my first 2 Moretons just now. Thought I could beat the slugs to them but the more ripe one already has a hole in it. Boy, do I hate those slugs.

Had my first Ramapo last night. The flavor and texture were outstanding. Not sweet. Real tomato taste and firm but not crunchy. It is a winner in my book. Very productive plant as well.
