Default Intro & Tomato ID ?

Having never grown any heirlooms, we ordered the Heirloom Rainbow Blend from Gurney's this year. It says it may contain: black, pink, red or yellow Brandywine, Cherokee Purple, Green Zebra, White Wonder and orange Nebraska Wedding. I found Tomatoville listed in The Old Farmer's Almanac and have been learning so much from all of you. I'm looking forward to growing many more heirlooms this next year and have a nice list started of what I want to try.

Now that some of the fruit are starting to ripen on this mixture we ordered, we're trying to figure out what is what. Here's our first one we picked today. The plant has regular leaves. Is it a Cherokee Purple? or?

Welcome to Tomatoville!

Notice the small seed locules around the outside.
Looks exactly like Cherokee Purple to me. Just like when I grow them.

Given the choices in your list, I would have to say Cherokee Purple as well. Looks like one on my countertop right now.

It could also be Black Brandywine.

Is the foliage regular leaf(RL) or potato leaf (PL)?

Black Brandywine should be PL but what's in circulation is mostly RL, so it's hard to tell.

Black Brandywine was deleted at the TGS site by Linda a couple of years ago, even though TGS introduced it, b'c it's not genetically stable and was giving different results as attested to by many folks, both with regard to leaf form as well as fruit size and taste.

Specifically, one can get at least two kinds of plants from it; one is a lookalike for Black from Tula and the other one is a small fruited plant with fruts that one person has characterized as a bag of seeds.

Thanks for the welcome and input. The tomato was great eating and we can't wait for more to get ripe whatever it is. At first I was a bit bummed about getting the 5 plants that were not marked so we had no idea what they were; however, now it's inspired us to do a lot of reading and info gathering and in that process we've learned a ton. Perhaps it was a blessing after all.

Here's some pics of the plant and the leaves.

My Black Brandwine looks like Black from Tula but it sure doesn't taste like BfT. And I haven't been able to save one seed from it yet.
And it is regular leaf.
