Default The Sun Shade Went Up Today (pics)

Now that we are hitting the 90s on a regular basis, with no clouds in sight (won't rain again until October) the tomato plants started getting pretty burned. Last Season, I lost a lot of fruit to sun-scald:

Well, I broke down and spent all of $26.00 on Amazon for a 15 ft section of Coolaroo 65% sun shade. I was able to wrap and staple the ends to some 1"x2" boards, and use zip ties to attach to the tops of the tomato cages:

I inserted a few support pieces on the tops of some of the cages to keep it from sagging too much:

(Betcha you can't do THAT with those darn EarthBoxes!!)

Now, I have some shelter underneath for the tomatoes to ripen without being baked alive:

My next goal is to be able to actually drive my car through the EarthTainer "Farm":

..oops, I guess that's Lombard Street in San Francisco...
