42 Days (tomato) and today's harvest

Here is today's harvest - 42 Days and Bursztyn are new to me this year -

Black cherry is good as usual, it ripened before Sungold - I think it'll be another 2-5 days before Sungold ripens.

Here is 42 Days sliced -

it is about 1 oz, very early - 23 days from transplant, 126 days from germination; compact plant, RL. The taste was about 5-6 on the scale from 1 to 10, but much better than store bought tomatoes

I still prefer Fruhe Liebe, which is as early but much better tasting.

The tomato season has begun in my garden!

Unusually early though

- thanks to the cold frames, I guess.

Yummmm... I am no where near to your progress. I have just got my garden in (we had heavy frost 2 weekends ago!)

Hi Tania, how's the Bursztyn? That's one I never heard of. Then again, I never heard of 42 Days either. It looks like a large grape tomato. Excellent photos BTW.

Rena, I am growing about 220 tomato plants this year - scaling back from the last year 320 plants.

Re Bursztyn - unfortunately I left the 2 maters on the counter and they mysteriously disappeared while I was at work, and none admits eating them.

. Fortunately, I have another 2 ripening, and hopefully will be able to taste them and save seeds today/tomorrow. I'll post the results.

I also feel sometimes that I am over-doing it a bit

However, on a nice sunny June day (like yesterday), I'd go there and check every tomato plant to see how they are setting fruit, look at a empty bed (with cover crop) and regret that I didn't plant another 10-30 varieties

But I know that coming cleanup time I'd regret having this many... like I did last fall.

42 Days lived up to its name, but for me it was more like 23 days from transplant in a pot. Unlike Kimberly or Glacier, it keeps giving ripe fruits after I picked the first one. I am positive that in a ground it would be more like 45-55 days for DTM.

OK - tasted the next two Bursztyn fruits... Hmmm... The taste is ... well... bland.

Unfortunately.

They are so pretty and early though.
