Paul I've related the history here and elsewhere many times, but I came across the this thread first doing a search. The history is there and the differences between IS and CP. Basically Donna Nelson, a friend of mine from TX, was visiting relatives in Arkansas and saw this variety growing in Mr. Burson's garden and he said he and others in the area called Indian Stripe or Indian Zebra so I selected Indian Stripe. he said that he had never bought seeds and same for those around him. And ssaid he'd grown it his whole life and he was about 80 at the time. He passed away several years ago, but his son also knew about it as well. Well, I'll let you read the above link and if you have any questions just post them here in your thread.

Paul -- That's a beauty! Have you grown Cherokee Purple before? Can you compare the two (taste-wise)? I imagine if I can grow CP here, I could grow IS as well...

Sherry, I have grown both and find that there is little between the two. I have not grown CP in the ground, but have grown both in containers. The taste is very similar, if not indistinguishable. Indian Stripe is slightly more prolific and slightly earlier in my opinion. Let me know if you need seed for one or both. My IS plants this year are averaging above 14 oz's.
