Kellogg's Breakfast and Large Yellow Amish
I ate my first Kellogg's Breakfast from my patch this week and really liked it. Today I was in Amish country and stopped by a friend's stand who was selling large yellow tomatoes. They looked a lot like Kellogg's Breakfast and I asked him what they were. He said they were just an old Amish tomato they had grown for years, and that they saved seeds and kept it going that way. I asked more about it, but he always said the same thing and that it was a "non acid" tomato. That seemed important to him and how he described it.
I came home and ate one. Looked and tasted a lot like Kellogg's Breakfast to me. It was a very good tomato, and it was tart and "acidic" the way I like them. I couldn't detect any lack of "acid" as he described it. I expected it to be almost sweet, but it wasn't. It was a good, large, yellow, and tangy tomato. I looked it up and found that there is indeed a "Large Yellow Amish" tomato. It's listed in some of the seed catalogs. Do any of you grow it, and have you compared it to Kellogg's Breaskfast? They look and taste very similar to me and I was interested in getting more feedback from the growers and consumers here. Thanks! DS

Since there have been 97 views and no replies I decided to post pictures of the "Large Yellow Amish" to see if any of you recognize it as a variety you are growing this year, and if there is any other info and/or input about it.

They do look nice. I did try Kellogg's Breakfast last year, but not this one.
First time I've read someone describing Kellogg's Breakfast as tart, because that is why I didn't like it. I like regular acidity for tomatoes, if that makes sense. Maybe you should save some seeds. |

I agree. And I compared it to pictures of Tom's Yellow Wonder and Kellogg's and the "Amish" is more orange I believe. It tastes great and I think I will try seed saving again. That's my next tomato frontier. So far I haven't been too successful. I'm confident the Amish will have this seedling for sale in the spring as a back-up.

I also grew KBX for the first time this year and really liked it. I thought it had a really nice balance between sweet and acid. It really has a full rich tomato flavor along with a very nice creamy texture which kind of surprised me because most of the other yellow/orange tomatoes have been too bland for me. I'll definitely be growing it again.
