International Tomato Genome Sequencing Project

Not sure if this is the appropriate forum but if not please move it.

Saw this today for anyone interested. I saw Mischka has a link in the sticky that points to the SGN but it seems to want credentials I don't have (I tried to login anonymously a la FTP but no success).

They are using the Heinz 1706 for this effort.

I looked for this discussion on the forum but did not turn up this specifically, although I'm sure there are many here already familar with these efforts and the results. However, if you have not, enjoy.

I put this link up just to show what I saw.....right in the middle of the pictures of tomatoes is a pair of my tomato creations...Schimmeig Stoo and Green Bell Pepper tomato! Striped Cavern is the name Thompson and Morgan gave it from a tomato that got into their hands back in 1979.

I wonder whey they (Solgenomics) picked out those tomatoes for their banner? Those tomato varieties may look something alike but the cytoplasm is different on those two as well as the original pollen parent.

Too bad the genomics experts are not in communication with the breeders of the tomatoes they are documenting.

Without looking too closely at it...it is looking like there is still a lot of work to be done and that project is far from complete.

It's pretty much a closed group as I understand it, but wouldn't swear to that and I don't know if your link shows the invited participants or not.

I was asked to submit some varieties by Dr. David Francis at Ohio State U as referred by two folks at the Geneva, NY USDA lab, Joanne and Angela, who are Ph. D types doing QTL's and for whom Craig L and myself have long been consultants for their research proposals, and was also sent a large folder with all kinds of information.

I haven't kept up with it and I don't know where things are at.

Above is the general link I was sent and looked at the links within this one but that was a year or so ago and I don't remember everything I read but there might be something there of interest in addition to the other material I was sent in that folder, which I still have.....somewhere.
