Default Opalka... (Tom?)

Does Opalka exhibit the little "nerple" on the tip from the get-go?
I have an "Opalka" plant that is pretty loaded, but it doesn't have whispy foliage, and the fruits are looking pear shaped!
Whadya think?

I've seen both on a plant -
Both pointed - and not as pointed -
I thought weather conditions
had something to do with it ~

Tom

ps.
All seed was saved from pointed fruits ~

As with most long red varieties of the same type, not every fruit will have the nipple and it's really more of a knob than a nipple, and some fruits will be doubles, etc.

I've never referred to the foliage as wispy, and it isn't. In my book I refer to it as medium cover of regular foliage and it was so as seeds originally received from Carl Swidorski all those many years ago.

No big deal....
Mine are universaly 2" long and pear shaped.

I'm sure they'll be great... whatever they are.

Don

I'll take a picture of mine this weekend (if I remember), and post it. You can compare the two.

I probably sent you the "TRUE" one!! LOL
I may need seed next year!

How are your GRS?
I should have a ripe one in a week to ten days.

I'm sure I can send you some.

My GRS are doing fine. I don't think I'll have any that soon, but there are some nice sized tomatoes set on the vines.

I wouldn't call Opalka's foliage whispy per sey, but it does have some long and fairly slender leaf branches. It is fairly dense. I'm not really describing it very well so here's a picture of my plant bad lighting and all:

Most of my fruit are pointy and some are nubby. That's what I call the ends on a paste type. Here are some of the larger fruit:

And, for those that are going to be pointy they show it fairly early:

Right now I have 8 fruit on the plant. 6 are pointy and two are nubby.

Randy,

How do you keep your fingernails so clean? I could use any tips you can provide.

Carolyn and Others -

I am relieved to hear that others
have seen "less pointy" Opalkas ~
I would however be happier if KCMO_Don
found a fruit with a "point" !!! lol ~

Tom

ps.
In my experience, the plant did not get
very tall / very compact / and
did have slender like leaves that drooped
a bit -
