Walmart $.20 seed packages

Walmart has the 20 cent seeds there now , They sell out so fast. Early for them. I tried them the last 2 years Nice.

Saw it yesterday. The only tomato seeds they had at the store near me was Beefsteak and Delicious.

What brand are they my local Wally world I have only seen Ferry morse seed and it was $1 a pack.

I'm kind of surprised they're doing it this early in the season. Seed sales must be past their peak in your area. Around here, they don't do seed specials until around Sept. (Too late for current year...just clearing the racks before they return leftovers to the vendor.)

$.20 seeds at Walmart are "American Seed" by Plantation Products in Norton, MA.
I bought a pack of Marketmore cucumber seeds and a pack of radishes. Seed sales have not really started in my area. I stopped at a local garden center last week and he told me he wouldn't have any seeds in his store for at least a couple of weeks. Lowes has just put their seed out and I have yet to see a pack of seeds at my local Home Depot.

Thanks maybe the mart will have that brand this year too, So far Wal-mart is the first in this area to have seeds. I actually had to have a manager at lowes come and unlock the outside part of the garden center just to buy a bag of potting soil.

In the past some of the best chain store seed I have bought was Dollar General seed LOL. I needed bean seed for a second planting and they were the only ones with any so bought it and really it did better than the same variety from a co-op type store and was cheaper.

I saw a display of Burpee seeds at an Oddlot or Joblot store near me and they had Burpee Heirloom seeds. There were about 6 or 8 tomato varieties (Cherokee Purple, Marglobe, Brandywine, Yellow Pear and a couple more I don't remember. The price was $1.03 per package.

I've bought those "five for a buck" seed packets at Walmart, Dollar General, and other discount outlets for years. I buy them simply because they usually have some interesting seeds. I've always found them to be high quality with better germination rates than most heirloom seeds I buy from reputable vendors. I love the fact that they are pretty generic. You never really know what your going to get, but it is usually good. How about some cucumber seed labeled as "cucumber seed". How about some tomato seed labeled as "Beefsteak Tomato" seed or "Cherry Tomato" seed. I love stuff that simply says what it is without all the hype. For some reason I love the fact that a few companies are still around that can make a profit and stay in business selling something at five for a buck.

Hmmm...Last year I bought a few of the "American Seeds" for 10 cents and they were fine! Grew out some of my best butternuts in 20 years from these cheap seeds. I even saved them and will never have to buy them again! Now thats being cheap but Ill never have to rely on anyone for seeds again. The sample pea seed also a whopping 10 cents were fine as well.Agway,kmart,walmart, home d and lowes all had seed out in the Torrington area.

Plantation products in MA is one of many seed repackagers so you don't always know where the seed came from which doesn't matter one whit if it germinates well and is true to the variety, when the variety is specified.

About Armenian cukes. They aren't. And I love them, also called snake melons and serpent melons and now you've got a clue.

Cukes are in the genus/species Cucumis sativus, but Arminian so called cukes, are Cucumis melo, which is the melon species. So melons used as cukes. There are various striped ones and solid color ones and they're one of my favoite cukes, but don't let them get too big and the only way you can keep them straight is to trellis them or similar. I could care and just let them curl around any darn way they want to.

Perhaps my favorite squash is also from the mid-east and it's called Lebanese Squash or Cousa or Coosa, light green in color with a bulbous bottom if that makes sense and the most fantastic nutty delicious flavor ever. Alsocommon in Armenia and other mid east countries. There are both OP and F1 varieties of Cousa.

Edited to add that you don't have to peel them either. Eat them fresh and naked or put a dollop of good yogart on them or do what I love to do which is to pick one maybe a foot long in the evening when it gets cooler and just sit in a chair and feast on the whole darn thing.

I was at a local W. store today and looked for 20 cent seeds. Alas, like most things around here, the price was 5x or more. All they had were Burpee seeds for $1 and $1.50.

Hmm... my store had the Burpee seeds for those prices, but it also had the 20 cent seeds. The cheap seeds were in a completely different area though, so maybe they hid them in your store like they did in mine? (Maybe the stores profit more on the Burpees so they are putting them in a more obvious location?)

Not anywhere near the garden center? I can't stand being in big stores like that, so I look around the garden center, maybe look for one other thing in the rest of the store, and get out as fast as I can. The $1 seeds were outdoors with the plants, and the $1.50 seeds were indoors with the poisons, hoses, etc..

Checked my local Walmart for the 20 cent seeds this morning, and they had them. They were already getting VERY low on certain varieties, however. Have plenty of land at our new place this year, so I picked up several of these generic, cheap packets just to compare to other vegetable varieties we're planning on growing.
