Default Fahrenheit Blues Cherry Tomato.

I'm growing Tom Wagner's "Fahrenheit Blues" cherry tomato that I purchased from his site,http://newworldcrops.com/wp/". Tom's description for the variety was, "Fahrenheit Blues: This is destined to be one of my HOT blues ! In the hope to fine-tune this variety, I will be looking, along with my lucky customers, to locate seedlings with long truss blue cherry tomatoes. The hotter the temperature and the hotter the sun, the bluer the tomatoes. The hotter the temperatures—the sweeter the flavors. I don’t have many seed but if you want to try this one it is five seed only. SOLD OUT".
I was able to get eight seeds germinated and have them all growing in the garden. I started three of the eight plants a few weeks early using "Wall-O-Water"s. Of these three plants the largest has set several trusses of tomatoes of which I have posted two photos of.
I'm glad I was able to be one of the lucky few to try this variety this year and I'm excited to see the fruit develop after all these weeks.
It appears that this will be a green cherry with blue shoulders but that is a guess. Perhaps Tom might comment and further elaborate on his progeny here, but in any case the results are developing.

Wow - those are stunning pictures. Beautiful tomato, and plant!

And I like the fact that it gets bluer in color and sweeter in hot temps. It was 97* here, with a "feel like" factor of 104.

Though I thought around 90* or so, it's harder for plants to blossom and pollinate. Is the F.B. a variety for warm/very warm weather folks?

How were these developed? Crosses with wild tomatoes?

Thanks,

Indy,

Great job on the photos! I'm glad you started this thread so we can have a central place to compare notes on Fahrenheit Blue Cherry and maybe get some addition advice as to what we should be selecting for and the genetics involved.

I have 13 plants and the trusses vary from pure green tomatoes to pure dark purple tomatoes, with most of the trusses green tomatoes with purple shoulders (as in your photo). I'm anxious see what the colors are when ripe and to taste them.

I'll post some photos when I get a chance.

Well, in just two days my theory that perhaps it was a green cherry with blue shoulders is out the window. My first look shows the fruit turning a yellowish (so far). It is making some interesting transitions along it's way.

How are you going to tell if it's ripe? It's so pretty!

Mine looked just like IndyArtist's but they utimately turned brick red. No more blue than the amount on the top half. I did have the string of 8 or more fruit per stem and that is more than I have on SunGold. Fruit taste was different. Not bad but different.

Of my 13 plants I have one that is almost black, one that is green, and the rest are varying degrees of green with purple shoulders. These were taken a few days ago and I notice they are starting to turn color today so should have a good idea of the final color(s) in about a week.

Thanks Tom, they sure have been fun growing!

The most blue one is the very type I am looking for being blue. The one with the long truss is also something I wanted to find in these populations.

Thanks for posting those photos.

Wow, those most blue look like a string of blueberries! I have eight plants with three started a few weeks before the others so I'm waiting for developments on about half of the plants. I'll take some more photos today and post them after awhile.
