Default Tatiana's TOMATObase - member contributions

I would like to take an opportunity to acknowledge everyone's contributions to Tatiana's TOMATObase. Without you, the contributing members, the extensive database would not have grown so quickly and become a helpful resource for many tomato growers.

Tatiana's TOMATObase was born in the fall 2007, and it now has almost 3500 varieties of tomatoes cataloged.

TOMATObase has 46 members who actively contribute their pictures and/or growout notes. You can view the contributions here: http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Category:Members, by clicking on member code links. Others who participated are listed here: http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/T...mmunity_Portal .

Just in the last month, more than 800 new photos were added to TOMATObase. The biggest contributors in the last three months were
I would like to say my big 'THANK YOU' to all the folks who helped building the informational database for everyone to use. It is remarkable what we have done together in the last 3 years.

I am hoping the TOMATObase will continue to expand. I have a personal goal of adding my growout notes and pictures of tomato plants in various growing phases for at least 200 varieties every year. With your help, the database will continue to grow even faster!

I am hoping to encourage more folks to participate in building the TOMATObase.

If you feel intimidated by the editing tools at TOMATObase, please do not get turned away. I will help with uploading the notes and pictures, if you need help. As I am not working at the moment, I have enough time to do it, so please consider it. You can use this thread to post 'how to?' questions, I will be happy to answer.

All your contributions will be posted with a full credit given to you as a contributor. Every contributor (member) is entitled for a Home page where you can see the summary of the varieties you contributed to, and you can use the page to post more information about yourself and your garden, or about your business, if it related to producing seeds or growing vegetables for the market.

Please help building the informational resource. We will all benefit from it.

THANK YOU.
Tatiana

P.S. Not sure this is the best place to post this, but I will let administrators to move it if necessary.

I have been collecting photos to post and plan to do it when I have more - we have a slow ripening situation here in New England due to (I think) slightly lower than normal temps for August (and that must be killing the people in Texas to read that - sorry!). I tried posting a pic earlier in the season and ran into some technical difficulties but if that happens again, I will contact you. (I've put up photos on the site before so I know I can do it!)

I love the Tomatobase and reference it all the time. I also just love the idea of a wiki, so high marks all around! Thanks for all your work developing and maintaining it - it's a great resource.

I'll do my best next year to be diligent with photography and descriptions and help to contribute. My computer skills are basic, but I'm a quick learner.

I use your site ALLLLLLLLLLLLL of the time and refer dozens and dozens of tomato lovers to it each year. Thanks so much for the resource.

I know I am late, but I finally finished inventorying Sandhill 2011 catalog last night - what a relief! I took me ~15 hours of work, over several days. Now the Seed availability section has Sandhill entries for 2011. Next are Skyfire and Solana.

this is very labor intensive, I have to admit

I completed the updates for Solana, Southern Exposure SE, Skyfire, and The Simple Seed Workshop. On to TGS and Tomatofest!

wow, I got so much help today with TOMATObase!

Michael Schäffner helped me to add Casey's Heirloom Tomato varieties for 2012 - so we now have a great head start with the vendor lists for 2012!

Shawn Harris added even more pictures.

Klaus-Peter uploaded a big bunch of photos that I still need to process and link to appropriate pages.

Lots of work was done today - thank you everybody!

I also finished adding Territorial, Tomatofest and Tomato Growers 2011 listings.

Will work on Victory Seeds later this week.

Up until now, I did not realize how much work I created for myself with keeping up with all the seeds vendors.

Tania - TTB is such a tremendous service that you're providing for the gardening community and seed vendors as well. Seems to me, it would be great if the vendors could give back by adding/editing their own listings. Of course, the downside is that there are likely some prominent vendors who simply wouldn't or couldn't participate.

Tania,

I heartily agree with 41n... You should post a short tutorial to demonstrate to vendors how to post their own listings. If vendors don't have the time to edit their own listings you could offer a service, say for $1.00/variety, to do the listing for them.

As a vendor, I only need to view my server logs to realize how much of my business comes directly from links through your site. As your site grows, a listing on your site will become even more valuable.

Good for 41N for thinking of this...

Steve
