I attempt

to have one variety per color in each category. IMO I would eliminate Super sweet 100 and keep Gardeners Delight. Pick between Lime Green Salad and Green Zebra. Aunt Ruby's German Green or Grub's Mystery Green. Stupice or Kimberly. Pick your favorite pink beefsteak. I know easier said than done. I hope you succeed, I failed and have to many on my list.

I hope you don't mind me piggybacking to your inquiry as I have the same problem figuring out what to grow. Can only grow about 15 and have 27 or more.

Here is my list:

Cherries: Sungold, Sweet 100, Green Doctors Frosted, Medovaya Kaplya, Black Cherry
Green/Yellow: Cherokee Green, Dr. Wyche's Yellow
Striped/Bi-color: Violet Jasper, Green Zebra, Red Zebra, Lucky Cross, Pink Berkeley Tie Dye, Chocolate Stripes, Black & Brown Boar
Reds/Pinks: Brandywine Suddith, Italian Heirloom, Ingegnoli Gigante Liscio, Neves Azorean Red, Linnie's Oxheart, Ludmilla's Pink Heart, Bobbie
Purple/Blacks: Japanese Black Trifele, Cherokee Chocolate, Paul Robeson,Black Krim
Paste:Speckled Roman, Heidi

Ok, maybe I can go up to 20 Toms this year. Anyhow, any recommendations from anyone who has grown some of these newer varieties or even older ones would be appreciated so I can narrow it down.

I'm in the same boat as you, and I don't know much, so I wouldn't take my advice too seriously if I were you.

But I'd eliminate Violet Jasper and Red Zebra. They're pretty, but I've heard they taste like nothing.

Thanks everyone for your help.

For those who have been telling me to choose between things of the same category (for example, Kimberly vs. Moravsky Div vs. Stupice, or Aunt Ruby's German Green vs Grubs Mystery Green) its very hard for me to do that seeing as I haven't grown them before! I don't know which is better.

Maybe I just need to buy some more containers.... or maybe I need to have a garden on my roof!

SO! Here is what I need help with most:

Which would you choose for the following categories?

1. Supersweet 100 vs Gardeners Delight
2. Earls Faux vs. Brandywine Sudduth vs. Stump of the World vs. Mariannas Peace
3. Stupice vs. Moravsky Div vs. Kimberly
4. Green Zebra vs. Lime Green Salad
5. Virginia Sweets vs. Pink Berkely Tie Dye vs. Old German vs. Large Barred Boar

Taryn,

1. Supersweet 100 if you like small and very sweet; Gardener's Delight if you like a bit bigger cherry that has more tomato taste.
2. Tried all of them once and Brandywine Sudduth was by far the healthiest and most vigorous producer for me.

5. Only grew the first 2 and they're not at all the same- Virginia Sweets was much sweeter to me than PBTD, though.
6. I prefer ARGG both in taste and production, but it was later than GMG.

Again, my taste buds, my conditions, different years for different varieties, etc. You'll only know what works for you by growing them.

Thanks. I'm pretty much growing them for the "market appeal" to the customers but I will grow them this year and taste them as well because I need to know if I want to offer them next year. I thought they would look so pretty in a bowl with all the other cherry colors so that may be more important to some than the taste? I think any home grown ripe tomato is wonderful but I am such a newbie on taste so it is good to get others' input.

Taryn, I think you've succeeded in compiling a diverse list of varieties. The only near redundancy I see are that Brandywine, Earl's Faux, and Marianna's Peace are nearly identical with regard to fruit size, fruit color, flavor, leaf shape, and DTM. That doesn't mean I would eliminate one or two of the three though, because sometimes when one fails to produce well, the other takes up the slack.

I would grow Stump of the World over Marianna's Peace and I thing Moravsky Div and Stupice are very similar. Thus, I'd grow one of these and add something else. I couldn't live without Prue.
