Mystery Yellow Solved!!
I need some help with this one, I received this one from a friends Mom and it was simply labeled "Russian". I was very surprised to find a ripe round yellow tomato this morning. When I called to find out what kind it was, I was told that they were pretty surprised to find theirs as well, and she now thinks she may have switched labels, but doesn't even know where to begin to figure out what it is. I haven't eaten mine yet, but I am told it is really good. By the way, all of the tomatoes are pretty much the same size as this one, there are a few that are just a wee bit bigger, but they are not whoppers by any means and are all blemish free. Any help would be great!!
Thanks! Kenya |

It appears to be only about a bit over an inch wide so it isn't Lemon Boy.
And the fruits of Galina's Yellow are gold, not yellow as well as the foliage being PL. I don't really see how we can ID it, though, with thousands of OP varieties being known and this one having no real variety name.

Yellow
Closer to about 2 1/2" than 1".
But still, you're right - who's to know? Are you sure it's indet? I've had some Taxi that grew pretty wild, and at first glance didn't look like a det. |

I'm pretty sure it's ident. It's over five feet and still going. I was looking at the SSE seed catalog and there is one called Blondkopfchen(aka Little Blonde Girl). The description is small golden-yellow 1" fruit with excellent taste, which it has, borne in giant clusters, and never a cracked fruit. This seems to describe it. It is loaded with fruit and they are all perfect.
The only thing it doesn't say is if this one is RL or PL. I'm going to call my friends mom and ask her if this sounds familar, hopefully it does, or we are back to guessing! |

Kenya - by the picture you posted, I think the size would be 2", rather than 1"...

How exactly do you measure a tomato?

I'm just going by the tomato against the ruler - the girth from one side to the other is actually 2" wide.

At random I looked at a 1997 SSE Yearbook that was on the floor near me and I'm going to list just a few of the varieties that are 1-2 inch yellows with no nipple to show that it will be pretty darm impossible to ID a variety that doesn't come with a name.
Aranyalama Austra Leinne Campbell C-37 Yellow Carobetta ( Russian origin stated), aka Caroletta Chello Aunt Ruby's Yeelow Cherry Ester Hess Yellow Estonian Yellow Una's Yellow Yantarnyi (Russian in origin) ......and I could have listed at least 50 more from this 1997 SSE Yearbook that meet the specs for what's shown here. And that's why I think any definitive ID with a known variety is just plain impossible, unfortunately. Kenya, folks describe fruit size either by ounces and lbs, or by giving the rough measurements of the diameter when not a beefsteak and when a beefsteak the diameter, length and height.

Mystery Solved!! Azoychka
Mystery Solved!!! It is Azoychka!! I remember seeing some labeled as such, and thought that I didn't want those. So I took the one labeld "Russian". Well, as it turns out, she wasn't far off the mark with that label, it just wasn't as specific as I thought it would be.
I figured out which one it was while reading another post and the name struck me and then the fact that it was from Russia. Apparently none of the ones she had labeled as Azoychka came up yellow , but all the ones labeled Russian did. We always tease her about her Canadian and doing things a bit backward(not to be mean to any Canadians), and tru to form, she got us this time!! Thank you all for your help. |

I'm not so sure - Azoychka, as far as I know, is not so perfectly round, and is somewhat larger than what the picture shows. It is indeed very yellow. I have eaten a few in the last week and find them to be delicious. That's my take on it, and I am Canadian!

Agree with Larry - this one doesn't look like Azoychka. Azoychka should be a small/medium size beefsteak, definitely flattened...
