swc 1st tomato and BER

i am pretty sure i know why the BER sank in. my timer broke while away and the growing media dried out. the planst were pretty wilted according to my lovely neighbor who spotted the problem and not only called but also watered from top for me.

i ended up losing 16 tomatoes to BER on 2 plants but 14 of them were from cher purple. there are still more green healthy toms on the cher purple then the brandywine x Nar.

anyway i added some cal-mag to the feeder tube just as insurance and hopefully with the new timer things will be ok.

in the meantime i got my first ripe tomato. its a cherokee purple. weighed in just over 9 and a half ounces.

the photo posted has the cher purple on the right along with 2 mystery maters from a regular container and a tennis ball for size comparison.

ray if you read this how did the bat guano work for you? i used dr earth 10-3-1 and although new to the SWC i feel it really helped the plant growth.

The "jury" is still out on the Bat Guano. On the one hand, I have lots and lots of fruit. On the other, I am experiencing more BER this year as compared to any Season in the past. Time will tell if the BER is a temporary thing and will go away soon.

My first fruits had it but now they are all doing fine (except for the leaf spots!). Hopefully things will turn around for you too.

Why is there concern over the bat guano? Do you think it contributes to BER? I have some, but I don't think it is the right proportions for tomatoes as mine is really high nitrogen.

I do have a concern that the 15-0-0 might be introducing too much nitrogen into the Combo Mix, which some believe could contribute to increased BER tendencies. Time will tell in my trials with it this Season. Stay tuned....

So the BER is not affected the non bat guano plants as much?

all i know is that my containers, not just SWC but all of them look awesome and are huge. i added a one month supply early on and i think the plants really liked it. i have not been adding at the flowering stage.
