I have more than one favoite red cherry.
Sara's Galapagos for sure, but it's a stable interspecies cross so can't really call it a Solanum cherry. Chadwick's Cherry, aka Camp Joy Gardener's Delight, an oldie but goodie Riesentraube Durmitorske, a brand new one , a Serbian heirloom variety which I really love and of two other new red cherries this season the best tasting by far at least as grown here in my zone 5.

I only have two to compare, so far. Peacevine has a rich tomato taste and rather thick skin. It dropped a lot of blossoms in the cold wet weather last year, and they spread mold around in the greenhouse which was a problem. I have one growing outdoors this warm year - the fruit are tangier than ever (maybe a little too tangy!) but still, very tasty.
Gardener's Delight was incredibly productive in the greenhouse this year, beautiful growth and fruiting habit, and I like the cherry texture (pops with a crunch!) but the taste (in this year's greenhouse conditions) is really watery compared to the Peacevine, and no way compares to the outstanding flavour of Black Cherry and Galinas Yellow (in the same greenhouse conditions) or Isis Candy (outdoors). So my search for a favourite red cherry isn't over yet... hope to hear more from this thread. |

For a container cherry, Terrenzo is the only one that I liked to eat.

I guess from the two different suppliers they came out different. The ones from SSE are round and a reg red with larger but not so hairy leaves. The tomatofest plants have some long wispy, droopy, really hairy leaves and a more elongated fruit with a almost scarlet red color. The t fest plants seem to have more fruit per cluster than the SSE.Wife loves them both,if she is happy I am happy.Do have to say that after a while(years)I am getting "bored"with reds and am delving into different colors and tastes.Just like eating oscar meyer bologna for years, and discovering boarshead honey maple ham.

I don't know about favourite; but, the only cherries I'm getting good production from are Flortis and Sungold OP. Flavour is acceptable. I'm just getting one of two cherries from the others. They are all loaded with green tomatoes, so there is hope for the others.

I tried Sweet 100's the first year I grew tomatoes and decided I wasn't really fond of sweet ones. Last year I grew Franchi cherries, and found they had more of an old fashioned, rich flavor that really appeals to me. Thus, I have gone no further, and one cherry plant gives me more than enough to keep me happy!

i dont mind a cherry with old tomato flavor or one that is sweet as sungold. just didnt like the ones i mentioned

I planted a Matts Wild Cherry at my sister's house and really loved it. Wish I had it here, so it's on my list for next year.
