Spring's comin' a callin'
A big high pressure system is hovering over us down here. Temps are rising and Friday the first of spring is forcast for 52 min 75 max, (I even did the conversion, jeez I'm good to you northeners ). The tommys in the greenhouse will really look up and take notice with the combo of warm night and day. Bring it on.

Very nice way to start spring isn't it? The babies slept outside last night for the first time. Almost all the seedling are hardened off, perfect timing!
I can't wait either |

It's nice to know that no matter where I'm at someone is enjoying their tomato garden.

Can the rise of the SH contingent be far behind, the NH group should steady itself no doubt.

Fantastic
Late as ever. But seeds for more than 100 toms, peppers and eggplants are in. Now, let them burst forth like the buttons on the blouses and trousers of Mrs Grub.

Yeah! Spring is definitely in the air.
The babies are sunbathing on the window sill and sussing out the the area outside. I'm sure they are already discussing which spot is theirs. I'm getting worried whether I should start more eggplants. Grub you are a bad influence! 55 tomato varieties at last count. But then I'm bad at numbers. |

You folks must be thrilled!
Allow me to ask what seems like a dumb question but hey I ask a lot of dumb questions! September 1 is the first day of spring? Unoffically, right? The 1st day of fall (and therefore your spring) is September 23. Just curious, happy spring to those down under. Oh, and Grub, if Mrs. Grub reads here you will be sleeping in the greenhouse on the 1st day of spring! Tom |

Out of all them I have 17 the same including 3 of your backups. Haven't got that many but I need spots for 10 F2's and F1's of mine and possibly 15 Grumpys. I am expanding the vegie beds in all directions
We are just working on the even months Tom not the Spring solstice. I bit impatient perhaps, but the weather is sure like spring. |

I'm reckoning because of all this global warming that Spring now comes to Sydney not on September 1 but about mid-July or six weeks earlier. It's just not cold like I remember it. Good for tomatoes, though. Another really dry year is predicted too.

I'm jealous of you Aussies that are already well on your way! I'm so looking forward to getting back home this Sunday so that I can start sowing seeds!!!! *sigh*
Plus I can't wait to see my puppy Xena and my kitten Jasmine, who I haven't seen for 2 whole months I'm sure they are pretty much full size now (Xena is 8 months and Jasmine is 9 months). Human kids come first, so I had to be away, but all the same it's been difficult! Patrina

Crazy as it sounds Tom, the "official" date for Spring here is September 1st, but the real season starts with the spring equinox of course.... seems odd why we wouldn't do the same as everyone else
I know we're a bit "different", hahaha!!! Nevertheless, I'd be interested to know if there's anywhere else in the world that starts their seasons on 1 September, 1 December, 1 March, 1 June? Patrina

Welcome back PP.
Good to hear you have your priorities right. I planted late last season and am later than I should be again but, you know what, my plants did just as well if not better than early plantouts. Besides, the fall crop thing never works for me that well as the flavours are subdued compared to the main fruits that ripened in summer. BTW: I uemptied a lot of seed packets into their respective cells and now have bristling green seedlings that look like the underarms of a martian. Stubble. Tomatoes, eggplants, peppers and herbs in too. Bags of dry ribbon weed from the beach ready to use as mulch. Sprayer cocked. Daco decanted. Onya marks. Here we go. |

Hmmm, only 11 the same with yours Spatz. We are going to have a good spread of varieties eh.
26 deg here at the moment with strong northerly blowing. Had to open some louvers in the greenhouse as the thermometer was sitting on 40. Yikes |
