Sweet Pimento "Apple"
Has anyone here grown a pimento variety "Apple"? I picked them up on clearance from Johnny's and now I'm trying to decide if I have room for them this year.

A neighbor of mine has grown it several times and likes it. I grew it many years ago and wasn't all that impressed. But I was more about hot peppers than odd sweets.
If you can grow it this year and save the seeds as I believe it was on clearance because it's been discontinued. Carol |

Hi Carol,
Thanks for the info and the heads up that it may be discontinued. As always I appreciate your input. Thanks again! Dutch |

i've grown it several times... it is very similar to another variety called lipstick. i believe lipstick to be somewhat more prolific. i think they are some of the best tasting sweet italian types going but they don't sell as well as larger more conventional sweet italians such as carmen or italia. i would recommend to home gardeners.

apple is heavier walled than, and ripens red later than lipstick, it's also more rounded or small top shaped. Lipstick is more of a small horn shape. I like apple's quality very much.
