Mini vegetable varieties

Does any one know of open pollinated or heirloom veggie seeds? I've seen the cute bell peppers in the stores and would like to know if any (not limited to peppers) exist that are not hybrids?

Well I grow some micro tomato varieties with my students. I grow Mohamed, flora gold basket, micro Tom, and anmore treasures. Tania at Tatiana's tomatobase has a nice selection of these micro tomato varieties. Technically, I guess anmore treasures isn't really a micro tomato but it grows nicely in pots.

Are you talking about mini plants or mini fruits?

I've grown three varieties of mini bells, the yellow, red and chocolate. The plants, while not tiny, do work well for containers and they put out a nice amount of peppers. The chocolate minis did especially well for me. But I prefer the larger peppers so haven't grown them again.

The Mexican Sour Gherkin is a melon that has a mini plant, (for a melon. It is still about five or six feet long) and has tiny little 1" melons that taste like cucumbers. My son and I thought these were a lot of fun and I am growing them again this year.

That blue jade corn has always looked like fun to me, but I have yet to try it.

Thanks and what I'm looking for is a small plant with small fruit or vegetable for growing in smaller pots.

I was looking at the sse mini-bells. I had no idea they were heirloom! I love to eat those too. Bet they will taste even better when grown in my garden rather than the grocery store too.

I did find a zucchini too, called Buckingham Patio, from Swallowtail. I'm just looking for variety, you know?

I think many of the ones that are marketed in stores are from a hybrid blend copyrighted by Park Seed CO. My greenhouse manager thinks these are the ones they are selling so this year we are raising a few hundred to sell to customers since so many have asked for the plants.

Thanks all who posted some ideas for me. For sure I'll get some mini bell peppers. maybe some mini cucs, and I'm already growing tomatoes, sounds like half a salad already, no?

I did see some baby lettuce, the tall kind, my brain just did a skip, Romaine that grows about half the size of what is a regular growth habit ---and some other red kind that forms a small 4" or so head, r something cc, man I need some coffee or something. That one was from an Asian link, Kaz... something or other from San Fran in CA. It is one listed in the other thread that John3 posted a day ago.

I better get that coffee so I can function for the rest of the evening! Thanks again, as usual you gardeners are the best.
