Tomatoes the 2012 Season

A total of 513 pounds of tomatoes was picked from about 32 plants over the season.Average 16 pounds per plant. Forty one pounds of tomatoes were picked today from the main tomato patch consisting of 32 plants suspended by ropes, free growing.Fifteen pounds were processed into juice and the remainder was spread amongst neighbours.Total tomatoes from the garden so far this year is 121 pounds.Types are: Bonny Best(5), Celebrity(5), Big Beef(5), Better Boy(5), Black Krim(Purple fruit)(10), and Lemon Boy (2). |

Congrats on the good results! Sounds like you grow to share and not to sell. Correct?
I'm curious as to why the heavy emphasis on hybrids. Big Beef and Sungold F-1 are about the only two that I care for. (oops, and Momotaro) Since you make a lot of juice, I would think that heirlooms like Belgium Giant would serve the purpose better. At any rate, it looks like you are doing great without my opinions or advice. LOL |

I make all tomatoes grown into juice, other than the few that I use for the table or give to neighbours. The type varies from year to year. Now my choice is the dark ones, black Russian, black krim. Hybrids are not particularly the best juicers. I only need about 500 pounds to get about 200 litres of juice. Everything grown is juiced.
