biggest harvest ever
Today in the near 100 degree heat I went out to pick a few tomatoes and I ended up with the largest (in average size and weight per tomato) one day picking in nearly 40 years of growing tomatoes. I weigh all my fruits but I can't give the exact weight, but these are the biggest in size and the most of them for me ever. The varieties include: Red Butter Heart, Flathead Monster, Giant Oxheart,Church, Joe's Pink Oxheart, Cowlicks Brandywine and Earl's Faux. The smaller ones are Randy's Cherry Bomb and Ambrosia Red.

Nice harvest Paul. Forty years is a long time to wait for a big haul! Better go buy a lottery ticket while you're on a roll

Whoa- that's a lot of tomatoes to pick in that kind of heat! There are some beauties in your photo, too.
If you don't mind me asking, how did those hearts perform for you, Paul? kath |

Good stuff and it definitely looks like you hit the mother load. Things are looking good in Brownville.

Thanks for the comments. I really was surprised to see so many huge tomatoes all at the same time.
Kath: Hearts always do very well here. There isn't a heart I don't love. Kat: We will have a few for BLTs, several just cut into chunks and eaten with other meals and the rest go into a big tub, taken to the local Post Office with a sign, "help yourselves." Everyone in our little village picks up mail at the PO so they will last an hour or so. Heritage: This year for flavor the top picks are Boondocks, Italian Sweet,Dora,Fish Lake Oxheart,Terhune,Earl's Faux, Joe's Pink Oxheart, Cowlicks Brandywine and (for my wife) Ambrosia Red Cherry. For production it has been Black Brandywine, Volovie Ukho (Ox Ear, thank you Tania), Boondocks, Dora and because of a one day picking of just over 14 pounds from 10 tomatoes, Red Butter Heart (another from Tania).
