Hi All

can I plant carrots and parsnips with Tomatoes ?

Let me say welcome. I know various things have been written on this subject but I've never looked hard at it and have little personal experience either good or bad. I do know that marigolds seem to be slug magnets when planted with tomatoes. I haven't decided if this is good or bad.

welcome smurf. Yes carrots are companions to tomatoes. Not sure about parsnips though.

Hello smurfatnz and welcome to Tomatoville!,

I've read several books on Companion planting and been practicing it for several years. Parsnips are closely related to carrots, so it doesn't look like there should be any problem with planting parsnips near tomatoes. I've always grown carrots in the same raised garden bed with my tomatoes and there's no problem. And none of the books I have mention there being any problem with planting tomatoes with parsnips.

Looks like you should maybe try growing a few along with tomatoes just to see how it works out for you...sometimes that's just the best thing to do. Good Luck!

Thank you for your reply's. I did read that you can not plant cabbages and caulis ect around tomatoes. Not sure why though ?
