Huge cricket problem, need an organic solution if possible

I just moved a week ago and noticed HUNDREDS of crickets in the backyard. Is there something organic I can try to get rid of them? I used cornmeal on potato bugs and it worked. Will it work for them the same way by them eatting it and when they drink it expands and kills them? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you

Turn the outside light off this is what they are coming to.
Its fall and its cricket time.

If you kill hundreds if not thousands of crickets you will smell the dead things for days and it isn't pleasant.
And more will come to take their place with the light on.

I never keep lights on at night I let my neighbors attract crickets.

Thank you Worth. I appreciate the link, it was very informative. I have the "house crickets". The kind you buy for feed. Maybe I should just catch them and sell them to my new neighbor that has a chicken coop out back LOL! The crickets are everywhere. UGH!!!!

Better still, ask if you could borrow the chickens for a few days!

Worth is right about outside lights. We were having problems with tiny tree frogs all over the outside of the house. They are very sweet, but not fun when they fell on us, or we trod on them. Turning the lights off meant that bugs weren't attracted to the lights, and tree frogs weren't attracted to the bugs.

Since Southern California seems to be the first for many new trends you may want to fry up a batch.

Here is a recipe for a tri-fusion food for the food trucks in San Diego.
Fried crickets(Thailand).
Fried pork belly cut into 1/2 inch squares(Hill Folk).
Fresh diced hot peppers(Mexico/Thailand).
Avocado sliced(Mexico).
Cilantro(Mexico/Thailand.
Roll up in a flour tortilla and serve hot with salsa.

There you have it, a Hillbilly/Asian/Mexican Tri-taco.
Otherwise known as the HAM taco.
Or crickapig wrap.

Well, at least you don't have this kind of Huge Cricket problem.


I hate when even a little one gets in the house! To me they are the most annoying insect of all.
Keep them out if you can. Cats bats and birds are among their natural predators. Light and molasses are among the attractants. Inside the house you can make sticky traps with molasses. Poison stations can be made using molasses and water to draw them in, laced with Boric Acid, for the kill. Keep your window blinds and shades, etc. closed when it starts to get dark. You don't want the light from your windows to attract them. Seal up (caulk) around basement windows. Once they get in they're hard to get out. Good luck.

I'm going to try a few jars with molasses and water. I read the love the stuff and they drown cause they can't get out of the jars.
