Default Fun Fir

Winter is coming here for us.
Let's have some fun with indoor tomatoes.
My SFT by the windowsill with first ripe fruit. Many more to come. About 25 more, and many blossoms.
Grown in a one-gallon can.

Is that ice on the window? You may need to make a 'Fir' coat  .

Wow. I might have to give SFT a try in a window sill.

Every time I see someone post a picture of their SFT, it's this beautiful, bushy, trailing plant. None of mine turned out that way last year (the first year I grew them). They were all single-stemmed, stiff and upright plants with no branches or suckers, almost stick-like. The foliage was right, but the growth habit just looked nothing like anything else I've seen here. I wonder if all my seed was crossed?

SFT was quite tasty for me. Unfortunately, the plant died off quickly with the Sacto. heat. I even tried moving it to the shade. No luck saving it...Just crispy fried leaves.

it was just moisture condensation whenever someone takes a bath.

A little aciddy. Tasted OK. I didn't expect much from the first one.

Don't blame yourself, or the seeds. I use a very different method to keep my indoor plants compact. I will post how I did it soon.

looks beautiful and very healthy - do you use any supplemental light?

It is amazing to see large tomatoes ripening indoors, must be a very sunny windowsill

A week later. About 35 fruits and many blossoms. I use an electric vibrator (not the ones that you buy  )to pollinate the blossoms.

There is never enough light on a windowsill. To increase light from the window, here is what I have done:
I make large light reflectors to surround the plants.
1. Large pieces of cardboard.
2. Using spray-on adhesive (from art supply store) to glue on kitchen aluminum foil (shiny side front).

You can see the reflectors in the photo.

Dcarch ...

Wouldn't high pressure sodium light bulbs
allow you to grow bigger tomatoes ?

You could feed beefsteaks to the cops
when they show up !

The cardboard reflectors are a good idea. When I started seeds in my windowsill, I attached alumimun foil to the bottom of the blinds and then kept them partially opened. I'm sure the neihbors thought I was nuts! Hey, it worked! I sucessfully grew several dozen tomato healthy transplants that way without a light set up. I may have to try growing tomatoes indoors next.

Just curious, there is one plant you have, is it's potato-leaf or RL, or what?
