Default OP Ramapo height zone 6

I was setting up my large deck pots today, for snap peas, peppers, and tomatoes. It's where I was going to grow (for more convenient bagging and observation) OP ramapo plants from seed saved in 2011 from Carolyn and Ed's line. It occurred to me that I have absolutely no memory of how tall the plants got that year. Should I plan on 6 foot cages or set up for 8 foot cages?

They are going to get set out a bit early and protected (late April) and first frost is October (zone 6).

Thanks to anyone for help with this early onset of senility.

I'm in 7b and mine grew to about 4' - 4 1/2' last year. Claud

If they over grow your cages, just pinch the tops off and the plant will redirect its energy into other branches.

Thank you so much. All I could sort of remember was that the dog attacked the plants and used them for chew toys (along with my corn stalks), and that they weren't as big as my brandywines, but not by how much, and some years the brandys push 9 feet if I rush the season and string up lines to tie them to.

The 6 foot cages (really a hair under 5 1/2 ft after I push them in really far) should suffice easily then.

When I dehybridized Ramapo F1 I used the true F1 for comparison in making selections.

For me in zone 5 both were indet, and since I sprawled plants I have no idea how tall they might have grown.

At Tania's site she says indet as well, others say semi-det.

Hope that helps,

Carolyn

Several years ago, I got seeds from someone who got his F4 seeds originally from Carolyn. The seeds I grew were F4 and F5. The unpruned plants were all monsters at least 6 to 7 feet and very robust, lots of dense foliage, and with a wide canopy.

Wow. Thanks Travis and Carolyn. I hope the more frequent posting means you are feeling a bit better, Carolyn. I guess I'll set the pots where I can put extensions on some if I need to and play it by ear.
