Can you recommend a sweet midsize tomato
I was a fan of miracle sweet tomatoes for years but can no longer seem to get the plants. Is there another really sweet midsize or larger tomato I can substitute?

Elliot,
I would recommend Momotaro as a sweet mid-size tomato. I grow it every year. Raybo |

Early Girl is a crowd-pleaser, and I think the fruit are sweet.
The sweetest tomato to me so far has been Brandywine, which is a pink tomato. I am growing several pink tomatoes this year, just because I like Brandywine so much. |

I love branywine but I have had a problem with them in the past. In most cases I only got maybe three tomatoes off of an entire bush. Could this be because we use containers?

Hello,
If you like a sweeter tomato, I find that many orange and yellow varieties in general are sweet. Oaxacan jewel is a smaller tomato, yellow with a pink blush and a lovely sweet flavour Karen |

Brandywine is known for lower yields. There are several different strains of it you can try, but big box stores won't have them. There are thousands of tomato varieties, but the selection at big stores is usually a dozen or two at best. You could also try your local farmer's market to see what the vendors there have. And craigslist sometimes has ads selling plants in the spring, too.

Elliot, you said you buy your plants at nurseries, and unless you tell me otherwise I assume those are local nurseries.
But no one here can make any suggstions for you unless they know what your local nurseries are offering as plants. Would it be possible for you to go to those nurseries this weekend and copy down the varieties that they have. This has been done before here at Tville and is a real help. A midsize fruit would be in the range of perhaps 6 to 10 oz and not usually beefsteak shaped, usually round or what's called oblate, which is a round one with a flat stem end. If you don't want to let us know which variaties are available to you then you're going to get suggestions all over the place. And even if you do give us some lists to chose from I can assure you that different folks will have different ideas as to what is midsize and what is sweet. Youo also have the option of ordering online for plants although it's getting late in the season, but there's one place that I can suggest that might help with that. It's of course up to you to decide what you want to do, but just with the ones already suggested to you I know that some are not mid=sized and heaven forbid, perhaps not even sweet according to others since taste ahs many variables/ Carolyn

For a sweet, rich flavor, I'd recommend Goose Creek.

I agree, Goose Creek is a nice mid size sweet. Also, I think Knapps Fresh Vegies has an open pollinated version of Miracle Sweet.
