55
My curiosity has finally gotten the best of me. There are Ace 55 and Wisconsin 55. Is there any significance to the number 55 with these 2 varieties?

Don't know if there is any link between the 2 varieties. My understanding (but it could be faulty) is that the 55 in Wisconsin 55 comes from its being 'hatched' in 1955.

Wisconsin 55 was bred by J.C. Walker of the U of Wisconsin in the 1940's, as was mentioned above.
it certainly can't relate to the DTM either, since that is much longer than 55 days. So right now I don't know what it refers to. I haven't taken the time to research Ace 55 b'c I have to view Tville via MSN and all my links, etc. are on my faves at AOL and I haven't transferred them to MSN.

If you divide 55 by 5 you get 11. Add the two numbers together and you get 2. Which is the square root of 4. This is the decade it was developed.
If you turn the 55 upside down you get SS, an acronym for Super Sweet. One of the parents. The final clue has to do with Old 55. Tom Waits... And my time went so quickly, I went lickety-splickly out to my old '55 As I pulled away slowly, feeling so holy, God knows, I was feeling alive. Which is how the W55 tomato developer felt at the time. As for Ace 55. It came from the 55th tomato seed that the developer, a thief who frequented growers markets in the 40s, had up his sleeve. |
