Best BLT in Atlanta is......
Spear's Tennessee Green. It is fleshy, juicy, tart and crisp but with a strong tomato taste. Large enough for one slice, one sandwich. One of the best tomatoes I have ever tasted and superb on a BLT.
Here is my STG today - pumping out tomatoes like a possum pumps out pups. |

I had exactly the same experience. I put wasabi horseradish on my STG BLT.

Spears has always produced for me as well.
I just cannot pick a favorite GWR tomato. First it was Green Giant, then Cherokee Green. Then Grubs Mystery Green. Then I tried Spears and placed my vote for it (mainly because I've had trouble with Grubs going down to disease early the last few years). This year I finally tried Malachite Box. Wow! I really liked it as well. I need to do a side-by-side comparison growout of all of my GWR's next year. Bill |

I really wanted to try a Malachite Box - planted two super vigorous seedlings for 2014 - they grew like mad, flowered, began producing green toms, and then BANG - both down with disease over night.
Spears Tennessee Green, just beside them, never blinked, never had a yellow leaf, just kept producing. I know which one I will plant again. |

Scott, I had the same issue with Malachite Box. Both plants produced a few very good tomatoes and then went down to disease.
We should compare notes some time since we live close to each other. Bill |
