Some of the Yummiest of the Season

Now I'm wishing that I took more photos but these are a few showing some of the best of the bunch.

The first is Elgin Pink- whole, then cut. This amazing tomato knocked Terhune out of the park and pushed Barlow Japanese to the #2 spot for me. It may be the only pink beefsteak I make room for next year.

The next is Grosse Verte Rose- whole, then cut. This one from Terry @ Secret Seed Cartel is vying for best dark yet- along with her Blackberry and Negrillo de Almoguerra- and maybe Daniel Burson. Place an order with her!

Next are 2 pics taken before taste tests- I especially wish I'd taken more of these. Anyway, the first shows a top and bottom half of (l-r): Blackberry, 'Chocolate Beefsteak', Margaret Curtain, Black Magic, and a Daniel Burson on the bottom. The last photo shows the bottom halves of a Margaret Curtain (top) and 2 Daniel Bursons (bottom).

Beautiful tomatoes Kath! I really enjoyed Margaret Curtain this year as well. I will have to be on the lookout for Elgin Pink for the future.

Kelli, I think the production has been good, although I wish I'd had more. There have been about 3 dozen from 3 plants. To be fair, one plant has been completely covered by a sprawling Sungold which was next to it on the trellis- it's hard to even see and pick the ripe ones. Next year the plants will get preferential treatment.

Anyway Kath I still have 2 plant in pots 1 is either Sungold or Sunsuger and a Jaune Flamme cherry plant.Did start a few Black cherries transplanted to pots outside

At the beginning of the season, my favorites are the earliest, prettiest, tastiest and most productive ones. Toward the end, it seems that the ones that have held on and are still producing good sized tasty fruits have stolen my heart. These are some of the latter- including a Negrillo de Almoguera (10.6 oz.), Top Sirloin (1 lb., 1.6 oz.), Work Release Paste (1 lb., 2.4 oz.), Elgin Pink (11.8 oz.), Terhune (11.1 oz.) and Barlow Japanese (11.0 oz.)

How was the Margaret Curtain tomato? I'm growing it for the first time this FL season. Seed Cartel / Terry has GREAT seeds. Also try Wild Thyme. It is a first "green when ripe" tomato that I LOVED last year. I am growing 5 plants this season of Wild Thyme.

Margaret Curtain was very good tasting, Gardenboy- hope it does well for you. She does carry wonderful varieties. I haven't found a GWR that I've stuck with yet- since Elgin Pink is related to Wild Thyme, maybe I would like that one. Probably not next season- too many on the list already.

where did you purchase seeds for Elgin Pink? It looks delicious. All your tomatoes look great.
My Barlow Japanese did not produce much 2 years in a row. Is your production more or less consistent?

Hi, Ella- thanks. Tormato was kind enough to send me some Elgin Pink last year. Barlow Japanese has consistently been only a fair producer for me.

I'm hoping you saved a lot of Elgin Pink seed. I didn't trial it this year, I've yet to look for what I have left for seed from last year, and it's even more requested (in the swap) for this year.
