Pro Mix expiration date
I know I read about it once here but a search turns up nothing. Pro Mix bales have a date on the side, is this the production date or the expiration date of the active ingredients?
Thanks. |

It's a production date. There is no expiration date, ProMix is mainly peat, perlite, a little lime plus a wetting agent. None of that is going to change over time, especially when it's a dry mix. I suppose the wetting agent might degrade a little, but that's no big deal.
If you have the bales with mycorrhizae or mycorrhizae + biofungicide bacteria, there could be some loss of viability of the spores over some years. |

Thanks Ray & Kurt. Yes, I meant the mycorrhizae expiration in the bales. I saw bales at Lowes with a 2013 date and wondered about that. I think I'll pass till I see fresher stock.
