Thanks! |

I've not done top watering in earthtainers, but presumably you could water it in as if it were in the ground. I typically add 2 tablespoons into the reservoir when I fill them up. Prior to this year, I used that amount, but only put it in every 2nd fill up. Every fill up seems to be just fine.

Rather than top watering the fertilizer in, I would recommend you add a quart of the diluted TT per week through the filler tube. This will not "shock" the plant and will provide for more consistent nutrient uptake. Repeat once per week then fill the reservoir with the hose to mix in.

Ray,
so just a quart of the mix for 6 gal (ish) of water in the reservoir? |

I would follow Dewayne's method.
The 1 quart (diluted) per week is a conservative approach, if you also used the initial fertilizer strip. Raybo |

wouldn't his method lead to varying concentrations depending on the water up take?

I think Dewayne's method dilutes the TTF in the water reservoir. You just need to squirt the hose down in the filler tube to get a good dispersion.
I suggested making the diluted quart sized mix first, then pouring it into the filler tube. Either method, you will not "shock" the plant via top fertilizing, which was my main point. Raybo |

i hope i haven't done anything totally stupid...my first application was a gallon of the mix on top of each box. they are over 6 ft at this point and totally dense. hopefully they can stand it!

I add mine on the top and also had the fertilizer strip in half my container. The other half no fertilizer. So far so good. They took off.
This is 1 month after transplanting them outside. Watering with TT food only once a week because of the amount of rain we already get. |
