Yellow & green and/or knobbly leaves: HELP!!
This evening, I was struck by the sight of unhealthy leaves in my little domain. At first, I thought it was just ONE plant, but the closer I looked it's THREE plants! Bottom ones in 2 shop buckets were mottled yellow and one of those buckets also had "pebbly" / goose-bumpy leaves on the bottom & on the top (the other leaves on that plant are flat and green). In addition, most plants were a light-er green for their upper third.
I faithfully scoured the stickies here, looking for something similar to what I seed, but no such luck. Here's some pics; HELP!!! sorry the pics don't clearly show the yellow & green leaves: the yellow is a definate yellow in between green veins; maybe you can see the pebbly leaves. . or not **sad, worried lop-sided smile** |

What are you feeding them?
The mottling is interveinal chlorosis. Possible magnesium deficiency. Leaf roll - could be a number of causes. |

Food for myTomato Jungle
Once a week, all plants are fed liquid fertilizer mixed into either their morning or evening watering (depending on if I remember in the AM or the PM They receive half strength MiracleGro Tomato Food or half strength MiracleGro Bloom Buster, on an alternating schedule.
I'm going to check out a site of tomato deficiencies, with photos, as opinions agree it's a deficiency but differ if the culprit is potassium, magnesium or iron. http://www.haifa-group.com/knowledge_center/crop_guides/tomato/plant_nutrition/nutrient_deficiency_symptoms/#{2F8FBEB6-D2D1-42A1-A01A-956B741717D4 |

It looks to me like that discoloration is happening on just the lower leaves and as long as that is all that is affected it is probably nothing to worry about. I usually remove all those lower leaves but when I don't they will frequently look that way on even really healthy plants. It seems to show up worse on large leaf potato leaf plants in my experience.

Diagnosed leaf problem!!!! YYYYYAAAAAYYY
The bottom leaves, with the yellow interveinal, AND the bottom and top (primarily) noticable "nobbly" are all symptoms of. . . (drum roll, please) magnesium deficiency!!
I looked at pictures and VOILA!! http://www.haifa-group.com/knowledge_center/crop_guides/tomato/plant_nutrition/nutrient_deficiency_symptoms/#{2F8FBEB6-D2D1-42A1-A01A-956B741717D4 Bill, you were absolutelly right: give that man a dozen tomato seeds of his choice! Time to go mix up some Epsom Salt solution - after I go get a sprayer (me poor little trigger finger will get ALL tuckered out trying to hand spray 11 plants!) |
