Mid-June 2015 Muddy Bucket Farm Tour
Here's the state of the garden so far. It's been so dry and I've had to do a light watering every couple days. The straw I put at the base of the Tomato plants has worked very well in helping to maintain moisture.
So, enjoy the pixs. I didn't write down which plant had which fruit shown in which picture, but am trying to show the overall state of the growing plants. I could have taken picture of other plants (I planted 163) and got the same results. I attribute a lack of pests to the extremely dry conditions so far this year. This is the one bug I've had to deal with consistently. It's one of the stages of the Colorado Potato Beetle. Bug.JPG The Cabbages have a good start on making heads. Cabbages.JPG The Okra (on the left) is finally taller than the weeds. Okra.JPG The beans are well into blooming. BlueLakes1.JPG It doesn't look like a whole lot of bean blooms until you move a few leaves and look down to where the bees are going. BlueLakes2.JPG The pickle cucumbers are coming on now. Pickles.JPG Look at the blooms in the top of this determinate Dwarf Plant. It's from the Loopy Family and is not yet named. 12InchDwarf.JPG This is Angora Orange and its remarkable foliage has all the neighbors stopping by to ask about its "odd fuzzy" color. One neighbor said he couldn't figure out why I would put "Sevin Dust" on just the one plant. After I explained it, I took him up to the house and showed him my container with Stick Tomato in it. He left shaking his head. I think bot are beautiful. AngoraOrange6-7.JPG The cherrys are doing great. The first one is Campari. Campari8-2.JPG Cherry1.JPG Cherry2.JPG Cherry3.JPG Cherry4.JPG And these are from a few of the "non Cherry" plants. I think I'll get lots of Tomato Juice this year. BigToms1.JPG BigToms2.JPG BigToms3.JPG BigToms4.JPG BigToms5.JPG BigToms6.JPG BigToms7.JPG BigToms8.JPG BigToms9.JPG BigToms10.JPG BigToms11.JPG BigToms12.JPG BigToms13.JPG

Thanks, folks. Hearing good comments makes this open air sauna we are going thru worth it. I just came back from hand watering and tying up and I'll have to cool out before I get my shower.
Ami, there are two Belmonte plants in that patch that come from seed you sent me a few years ago. There's also African Queen which I've grown every year since getting the seed back in 2009. This year, there's been so little rain right here that hand watering has been essential to the survival of the plants. The plants are so vibrant and so large this early, that I'm wondering if mother nature has been raining on them too much over the past few years. Even the stalks are thicker and stronger. Again, thanks for your kind comments. Now, for that shower and then a BLT for my late breakfast/brunch.

Looking good Ted! Now, before you shower... go back and emasculate a few Angora Orange flowers and collect some of that stick pollen, and get to making an Angora Orange Stick! That will totally weird out your neighbors!

Wow! I hope mine will look half that good when they grow up. Most of my garden has only been in the ground a few weeks!
Great job! |
