Default First two Tycoon tomatoes!

This is my first time growing tomatoes, and Tycoon is the variety my local nursery recommended for the area as it set flowers even in high temps and is determinate which he said was better for container growing (I live in an apartment with plants on the patio). We harvested our first two tomatoes earlier this week, which we used in a pizza sauce, and I just wanted to show them off! It's such a good feeling to eat something you grew! These probably could have stood to ripen a little bit longer as they were a little firm, but they worked great for the sauce and tasted (and smelled) so good once cooked!

(Another reason I'm posting is that there is very little in the way of images of Tycoon tomatoes since they're a relatively new hybrid, so I figure I can contribute to the internet for those searching.)

P.S. Here's the sauce and the pizza that resulted from these! The sauce is just sautéed minced garlic with pureed tomatoes, fresh chopped basil (also homegrown), dried oregano, a pinch of sugar, and some salt. The pizza crust was made from scratch and is topped with the sauce, mozzarella, leftover brisket from Franklin BBQ, cheddar, and an Italian spice blend. It was sooooo good!

Oh man, it is SO worth it. In the meantime, check out his smoking videos on YouTube to try to emulate a little of his flavors. If you do make it out to Franklin's, go EARLY (luckily I got to sleep in while my husband and bro-in-law did all the hard work haha), I'm talkin like 7 AM. They have chairs available to borrow and sit in, and they bring out samples when it gets closer to opening time (11 AM). Don't waste your time on the sausage or the turkey (both of which are great and delicious in their own right), just get you some brisket, and if you can afford it try the beef ribs too. Don't worry about sauce, the meat doesn't need one drop.
