Default Ginny's Heirloom Tomato Haul

Well, I decided to pick a lot of my nice tomatoes as the birds were having a feast, I think they want to fill up before winter set's in.. grrr! So between the birds demolishing my tomatoes, rain pouring down all this week and a heat wave that is giving a few of my maters sunscald, I picked lots of buckets full and put them in my GH. I still have lot's left on the vines, but they are smaller in size. Some varieties are: CDT, Bear Claw, Rebel Yell, Morado Vejer, Greenbush Italian, Brandywine, Dester, Red Barn, German Johnson Potato Leaf, Margaret Curtain, Alice's Egypt, Tree Bottom Yellow, Daniel's, Black Krim, Aunt Ruby's German Green, Kelloggs Breakfast, Kentucky Cabin, Winsall, Marmande Rouge Garnier, Carol Chyko, Old German, Tiffen Mennonite and a number of others.. I think I have picked over 45 gallons so far.. I have canned a few so far, made lot's of fresh sauce and BLT's, and I hope it cools down outside because the kitchen will be heating back up again soon.

I also planted some Big Beef and they are in the box in the above picture.. This is my second time growing it. The firat year was a bust and I was not impressed, but this time around, they did pretty well. I have yet to taste one, but will soon!

If i bring the beer batter and the peanut oil, do you think we could fry up some of those greenies?? Your pictures are making this country boy say, "Ummmhmmmmh". It's kinda like a pain or discomfort in the lower ribs that can only be relieved by a couple dozen slabs of fried green maters.

Mercy me, I need relief from this affliction.

Pretty stuff. Congratulations on a good looking haul.

Beer batter? Now that sounds like a yummy way to fry green tomatoes! Maybe I will deep fry some beer battered cod to go along beside it. Oh yeah, hubby is gonna love me!! Now what to do with all that zucchini while I'm at it??

Thank's Ted!

A very nice haul indeed!

Will all those eventually ripen? Many of those are quite green. I don't have any experience picking them at that stage, to see if they'd ripen.

Doug, yes they will ripen. Some were already blushing when picked, some were almost ripe, and the ones picked at the green stage will ripen eventually at their own pace. I picked them so the birds would not get them before me and we had lot's of rain and I did not want watery fruit and cracks on the fruit..

Lurley's Paste. The vine is loaded with fruit. This is an excellent variety of paste that does extremely well for me. The fruit make a wonderful sauce. This is off one vine that I picked today.. I picked a few previously, and lot's more left..
