Default Best Multiflora

I did a search and didn't see a current thread on this.

What is the best tasting and most prolific multuflora? Taste is first criteria.

I have seeds for Blondkopchen, Ildi, Reisentraube, and Zluta Kytice (sp? ). Only want to grow one multiflora for my neighbor.

Any input would be very helpful even if it's to recommend a different one than listed.

Thanks!

Ask your neighbor what they like best red/pink or yellow and decide between Blondkopchen or Raisedasnob/Reisentraube.
Or you could polish you grafting skills and give them both on the same plant.

I've grown only Zluta Kytice, which is tasty, prolific, and versatile. The fruits are small, but the plant can grow in a 5 gallon pot. It's a compact indeterminate. I still have some plants in containers under the eaves of the house!

Ildi is the one I would choose of those options. Unless your friend prefers red in which case, risentraube

I've grown Ildi, Riesentraube and Zluta Kytice, which has more than one name and IMO Zluta Kytice is the best and here is why

http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Riesentraube

Just noting that we have Risesentraube by a German name but it was grown in many countries in Europe with names in the language of those countries, and it was Curtis Choplin,an SSE member who first listed it in an SSE Yearbook.

I've grown R many times and yes it sends up a flowerstalk with several hundreds of blossoms, but only 30 to 40 usually set fruit.

Zluta Kytice also has the same multiflora trait but almost every blossom sets fruit and I had it growing in a container this past summer for the 2nd time b/c I liked it so much and Rob,who grows my seedlings for me brought too many seedlings so I sharedwith 5 other people and everyone loved it,as did I,and yes ,Freda takes care of all my plants grown here at home since I no longer can do that being in this walker,

Taste wise, IMO, Zluta has much better taste than Ildi although the latter also sets a lot of fruits

I'll keep it to that on multifloras but there is another one that I think is great, cant' remember the name right now, fruits are pink and it was a mutation from the original variety which was not a multiflora.

Then there are the de Colgar types from Spain and also some from Italy that are really outstanding, and I'm expecting to receive many new Colgar kinds from Spain. They were once called winter tomatoes since there was no refrigeration back then and you could hang them in a shed or whatever, and just pickoff what you needed when ripe.

Many of them were shown in the long thread that Vladimir put up here about his huge Spanish varieties project and Ilex from Spain also contributed and I think I may have saved that thread

Hi Carolyn,

What size container did you grow it in?

Thanks
Justin

Probably Freda transplanted it to a 10 gal since most of them out there are 10 gal, but support is always added simply by using one of those three ring metal supports, and if any variety is longer it just spills over the top and hangs down.

I have grown Barry's Crazy Cherry. The plant was a machine as far as production however the flavor was just ok. They also have a thick skin which i dont really care much for. If you want to try some Cole i can send you some seed.

Ok going with Zluta!

1. Neighbor doesnt care about color
2. Carolyn voted for it and explained some reasons why several of which made a difference including more fruit set
3. Got the most votes
And a couple other reasons that I cant think of right now.

Thank you!
Ginny
