Sulia's Heart... Or Plum?
I received a small number of 10 year old seeds for this variety in my MMMM package this year and am hoping to germinate and grow at least one plant. In looking it up on the Tomatobase, it's identified as being Plum, Oval, Round, and that's what I'm seeing in Tania's photos.
However, tonight while looking for any posts about Sulia's Heart in an attempt to find more info, I see it showing up on threads about hearts. I know there can be some variability in shape with some varieties, but wondering if Sulia's Heart is it really a heart or more of a blocky plum? |

So here it is again: http://t.tatianastomatobase.com:88/wiki/Sulia%27s_Heart If it were that good I would say so,but I don't think it is. In the 2016 SSE Yearbook only one person lists it and he has been a seed producer for many years and got the seeds from me,that I first listed in 1995 and then he listed it in 1996 and continues to list it. If it were something really good there surely would have been more than one person still listing it. But as is always said, you won't know if you like it until you grow it, and I grew it for several years for my SSE listing and can't remember ever seeing what I call a heart, rather just a medium sized plum shape. Thanks Carolyn. And yes, as I said, Tania's is where I originally found it identified as a plum/oval back when I got the seed. It was last night when I started looking for info on it here that I discovered several people putting it on heart lists which got me wondering.
Tania's description of it having "thick walls and dry flesh" are why it's being included in my pastes patch this year so I'm not growing it for fresh eating. And I see Tania is also lists seeds for it for sale on her site, so if mine don't germinate I know where I can get fresher seed! |
