Yellow Pygmy - leaf type?
I am trying to identify the leaf type for this Yellow Pygmy - it is certainly a dwarf, with crinkled leaves that look more like potato leaf to me... Is it what is called 'potato rugose'?

Tania I also noted the leaf is odd. I believe if my Mommy brain is correct I have grown another like it called Ceylon? That was during pregnacy and I was not quite normal Yes, I agree a strange leaf. Maybe it should be added to the list of leaf types. YOURS looks mucho better then mine |

It's been listed in the SSE Yearbook recently, by SSE itself, the origin being the now defunct Gleckler's Seeds in OH. And the SSE accession number suggests it was entered into their collection in the mid to late 80's.
But all that's said is one ft tall plants with 0.5 inch yellow cherries and no leaf form is indicated and no one has relisted it in the 2007 SSE Yearbook. Tania, I couldn't tell what the leaf form of a tomato variety called Krasnodor Titans was when I listed it b'c of herbicide drift causing leaf distortion. I listed it and asked others to make that decision for me. And they have, it's RL, but the herbicide drift made it look almost like a crinkled PL.

Yellow Pygmy leaf form?
Tania,
Looks PL and rugose to me. I've sees similar leaf shapes on some of the small grape types such as Julia, Sweet Olive and others. And there are rugose PL's like Dwarf Recessive and Red House Free Standing. I wouldnt be a bit surprised that some of Patrina's crosses w/Dwarf Yellow Champion and a PL like Stump or Yellow BW (platfoot) are rugose PL dwarfs. For a long time the Europeans thought the rugose bush like plants were PL. The only way to tell for sure is to DNA test for the recessive PL and rugose genes. Maybe Keith could go into more detail as to the differences between the "c" gene for PL and the ("??") gene for rugose and on which chromosome each one is located. I know that the "c" gene for PL is located on the short arm of chromosome #6. Dunno about the location of the rugose gene Best regards, Bill |

I am sure there hasn't been any herbicide drift in my laundry room (where this plant has been sitting so far)

Just curious, how does Yellow Pygmy taste? Also, how many fruits does it produce?

Just not a good example for me to use as to problems with lead type ID, but that herbicide drift KT was the first time in all these years of being an SSE member that I couldn't say what the leaf type really was when I listed the variety.

Tania -
I'm growing it too and my leaves look the same - PL and rugosa looking. Mine are much smaller than yours and not yet blooming - yours look great. Robbins |
