Default George Detsikas

These things are getting HUGE. I thought they would be ready to begin ripining a couple of weeks ago, but they just get bigger and bigger. It looks like some will be a couple of pounds (unless they continue to grow).

What is your experience with this variety as far as size and taste?

Big, productive as all getout, and very tasty, also quite early.

Early, very productive, good on taste. Growing again. While it is not uber taste my hand would go first to, it is fine enough to add to canning/cooking/ juicing etc. But I only grown it for 1 year, so taste test coming this year again.

I think this variety is not just huge,I grow tomatoes for taste, and for me it was very tasty.

http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/G...as_Italian_Red

Tracy, aka Tam,who sourced the seeds sent me a box of them a few years ago and I thought they were wonderful. I had helped her name it since she asked me to do so and at first she had wanted to call it Gorgeous George,until I linked her to the info that he was a well known wrestler,told her to go back to her source,which she did and we came up with the name you now see.

It's all good.

Right on for the taste thing. I grew it last year and it's back for another "curtain call". Absolutely one of the better heirloom introductions of the last couple of years.

And, Yes, they get pretty large. One I had last year was just over one pound.

Mine got big, but so did a lot of tomatoes that year due to weather. Flavor was very good. I have a couple plants of Wes this year, as I was trying to choose between the two varieties. I'll probably end up keeping both, anyway.

Geez ! have mercy !

I am already getting new choices for the next year.
== George Detsikas
== Rebel Yell
== Reisetomate
== Orange Jazz
== Russian Orange
== Neves Azorian Red
== Indigo Cherry Drops.
.... and the list keep growing ...
I was thinking to drastically cut back in 2017.

About what you posted as Neves Azorian Red.

You aren't the only one who has spelled it wrongly,and since I'm kind of the mother to NAR,here's how it should be spelled.

http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Neves_Azorean_Red

And yes, at the original Garden Web I started a thread about naming it,there were 22 folks who posted, and the name you see was agreed by all after I gave all the background info I could.

As thanks, I then sent seeds for NAR to all who had participated in that thread.

I almost forgot but I had had problems getting seeds from the plants that I grew from seeds from Chuck Perry,a local,the deer kept eating them,so it was Fusion,Darrel,who started calling it Perry's Teasum.

Default First One

I actually picked two of these today. They were on the same truss and were so heavy that they broke the truss. One was ripe and slightly smaller than this one.

One pound 11.4 ounces.

Default George is a Horse and aTomato Machine

My George Detsikas is doing really well this year. It is about 8 feet tall, has a lot of tomatoes and is relatively disease free. The first tomato that it set, is about the size of a softball (picture 3). It continues to thrive even in our 90+ degrees, rainy weather.

Default A Great Tomato

This is a great tomato! I've harvested 3 so far. Two were almost 2 pounds each and the other was a pound. The flavor is superb!

Default George Detsikas

I harvested my first 2 a few days ago. As you can see in the picture there were quite large and nicely shaped. The largest one weighed in a 28 ounces.
Will be growing it again. It is very healthy and very disease free.

I really need to give George D's another try. It didn't do too well last year, so I didn't grow it this year. I did get a few fruit and saved seeds so I'm thinking it'll be invited back next year.

Mine is doing GREAT so far! About 7' tall, filling up the cage, no foliage issues yet, LOTS of BIG tomatoes! None ripe just yet but I haven't had a taste of any large fruits yet.
