HO HO HO!! Green Giant!! :)

What a wonderful addition this year! The first three were over a pound of a wonderful citrus-like flavor that lingered! No salt needed on these guys!

Plant is/was huge and healthy with plenty more smaller ones to come.

DEFINITELY will be back next year!

First pic are the first two 1 lb 1 oz tomatoes along with some larger Shannon's and an Orange Minsk in the upper right, along with my mystery green in the lower right with the much darker skin.

Second is one cut up next to a mystery green of mine.

And it looks like your GG had an amber blush as well,which was the topic of another thread here a bit ago.

I coudn't agree with you more on the excellence of Green Giant,and with the HoHo,I'm seeing that ad from the valley of the Green Giant.

Tania said no amber blush, she does grow some of her tomatoes in green houses,but what Craig got from Reinhard had no amber blush,so Craig sent seeds to quite a few folks,me included, and you'll note that Neil in IL got an amber blush,I did too,and when Craig contacted Reinhard about it,he said that he grows his tomatoes in greenhouses.

So it looks like whether one does or does not get an amber blush seems to depend on ambient temps in a given summer, which was also reported by many who SSE list it.

Is it my favorite GWRipe, I'm not sure,but there's also a thread here at Tvill about fave GWRpes,and right now all I remember that I listed was Cherokee Green and Malachite Box.

That was my thread. Although you already had me convinced that a blush was normal from that other thread, it's always nice to see photos of people's delicious-looking tomatoes.

This is on my list for next year, for sure.

This year's GWR representative is Malakhitovaya Shkatulka, the first two of which I think are just starting to get a little amber on them, so I should be able to taste it soon. Can't wait.

Interesting. My dwarf Jade Beauty had a little red blush this year when very ripe, after a hot dry month of June. I didn't have that last year, in cooler wetter weather.

It's been rather warm here and she seemed to be one of the last to produce fruit. WELL worth the wait!

While other plants were feeling the heat, she was nice and dark, tall, and healthy looking!

Blush was a nice touch

I grew MS too. For me amber blush, but also mealy and watery. I tried again last season, but it got sick and died early. I loved Cherokee lime, and last year's cross from Jason H., Gail X Everett's Rusty Oxheart F4. It'seems name is Green Gables. The latter is now at F5/F6 is a PL, super productive. Thinking I must grow it again.

Marsha, As solid as it looked for me, It was juicy as any I've had from my garden.

Quite a surprise and a treat! Two bites and it's earned a place next year!

Another good year for her! Just picked these 8 this evening. 3 at 12 oz, 3 at 9 plus.
Had another around 16 oz but didn't take a pic as son dropped it! Grrrrr....
And my largest tomato of the year! Probably get around 25 total off the plant. She'll be back next year again!

I'm growing GG this year as well. Plants are nice and big (although Pantano beats everything else in the garden hands down for vigor), very healthy foliage. Hornworms seem to like GG the best--I picked off several eggs on the GG and not on other plants.

GG is setting fruit generously. I planted out late this year, so nothing ripe yet. Can't wait.
