worst tomato in 2016

what is your worst tasting (not worst producing) tomato in 2016?

mine is Bushy Chabaroysky, a dwarf. I tried it because cole robbie was telling only good things about it, but for me it has a really weird taste. I wont grow it again. I didnt even eat them after the first three tomatoes (from two different plants in different spots in the garden)

I haven't had a bad variety this year or for the past two years since I cut down my plantings to only varieties that I thought had exceptional flavor. Even if they don't have a great year with peak flavor they still are still good with one exception. A long period of too much rain like we have had the past week can make some of them quite bland and tasteless but that usually clears up as soon as the soil gets a bit drier.

I didn't care much for Chocolate Cherry. It produced very well, but I think it rained too much for it to develop any taste.

So far I have tasted 9 varieties this season. All have been good in their own way, but this year ALL have lacked the 'wow effect', no doubt thanks to the weather conditions...

Azoychka, one of my faves, was very bland, not at all her usual self. very disappointed.

But still, tomatoes with no wow effect are better than no tomatoes..

My worst is Big Beef. Which is still a decent tasting tomato, just not exceptional. So I guess I chose my varieties well this year. In addition, the weather has been bad for production but actually pretty good for taste.

Mine have all been tasty too even Costoluto Genovese which didnt have the most favorable reviews. I think some of that has to do with the quality of the soil and home grown compost that the tomatoes were grown in.

My Costoluto Genovese would have qualified for the worst tomato in my garden this year due to rampant BER. However, she really pumps them out, and I have picked lots that have been unaffected. This is a great one for sauce, and might just be invited back again next season.

Supersonic. No flavor. Disappointed in Chocolate Cherokee but they are still OK.

My Bosky wasn't good either this year. I don't know what the problem was. Last year, it was my favorite. I had market customers who bought plants come back and tell me it was the best tomato they ever tasted.

I think we're even, though. Black Amber was my biggest disappointment of the year, LOL. I didn't get a single edible tomato off of it. It cat-faced worse than anything I've ever seen. Parts of a fruit would rot while other parts were still green. (thanks for sharing it, anyway. I'm not sorry I tried it.)

Sakharnyi Pudovichok was the biggest flavor disappointment. It looked good, but the taste was weak.

Orange "Roussollini" unfortunately. I was introduced by MiGardener and he said it had a brix rating 11. Unfortunately the seeds I received looked like they crossed or didn't have the same traits, so it came out tasting as bad as store bought tomatoes with no flavor whatsoever.

My Black Amber from the MMMM Swap grew to only 18", produced 2 small fruit consisting of 'little peas glued together'.

Blue Cream Berries was a new variety to me this year and it will not be grown again in my garden. It was definitely a spitter. I should have known when the description said "complex flavor".

Not any terrible eaters...but my Beefmaster was not up to par. As far as hybrids are concerned (I don't grow many)...my Big Beef was better tasting and much more productive.

I've grown Homestead 24 many times because of its heat tolerance. This year it was a spitter and I don't know why. Plant was productive with big, beautiful fruit. Yield this year was the best I've ever had, but the taste was not good for eating fresh. I roasted them and made sauce.

What is a "spitter?"

Honestly, never heard that descriptive for a tomato before, but in melon terms I would think seedy....... I like to stay current on my analogies and adjectives. tia


Hate to throw Black Krim underneath the bus again, as so many here vouch for it's success, but it was another dud for me this year. Managed to get a few fruit, but were the size of a racquetball and the plants were the first to succumb to adverse weather. So, not worst in taste by any means, but production wise extremely sparse and fragile.
