"Tomatoes Anonymous"
Folks in the Northeast:
Have you noticed the season getting a little bit chillier ? Production starting to dwindle? The time it takes to harvest is now minimal? Sauce can be made in the smaller pots. You have saved all the seeds you need for years. Are you getting a bit jittery? Too much time on your hands? Well, I have the answer!!! Shall we consider starting a new National Organization- Tomatoes Anonymous- People in the south can me mentors to us Northerners in withdrawal. We could all have online meetings about how insane it is to grow 30-50 varieties or more. How this obsession with this friggin fruit has changed our lives and family. It could be a great symbiotic cycle! We would even help those Southerners. We all could send pictures of dirty hands to each other, piles of trimmings from pruned plants, the mess left close to the shed, that we were supposed to pick up, etc. It could make the absence of the smell of tomato leaves, green fingers and overripe fruit less painful. Any thoughts? My Name is Old Chef and I am a Tomatoholic |

Ha, yes! I'm only a second-year grower, but here in the Hudson Valley, the nights are getting cooler (we already had a frost advisory; thankfully, false alarm) and my fingernails are looking cleaner. I don't like it one bit. You know the 24-hour animal cams online? We need a 24-hour tomato cam! Southern growers, please oblige.

It is really nice weather here and I am glad of it.
Been in the 60's at night and I am leaving the windows open and the AC hasn't ran in awhile. I just opened the garage door to take out the trash and a cold rush of air came in. This is the first time ever I have wished I would have started fall tomatoes. worth |

My seedlings, all 375, of 105 varieties are doing great. My season is just kicking off. 4 of those are Barlow's Best Black and they look very strong.( many thanks for the seeds).
Now I just need a cold front to make it down here. |

We could use more Aussie members in this mutual support network, too!

I am definitely a "tomatoholic", but for me, having a break is actually a good thing. I work very hard to keep my garden clean of weeds, tomatoes tied up, picking every afternoon, ect. It is actually nice that I don't have to worry about that for now. Come February, I will start getting the fever and will start looking forward to getting my garden going again.

Ha! I admit it, I need to work a tomato 12 step plan! OTOH, there are some health benefits to being a tomato-holic, it's relatively inexpensive compared to the other common addictions, it keeps me home, and its not as dangerous as many other addictions unless you count the Virginia mosquito exposure!
I agree with Urban - its nice being in "the middle" of the country where we get a long season but then a little break. |

Haha. I'm in.. or actually, I don't think moderation is always the healthiest option... Enjoying the season as long as possible, some delicious fruits are just coming along !!

I am NOT a tomato-holic! I just have a mild case of Tomatoitis. As with any virus, there is no cure and it just has to run it's course. Just like a common cold... It will pass soon, you can be sure.

We had what will likely be the last garden tomato salad of the year for dinner tonight. I'm already having withdrawals.

So Sorry about the passing of your last Tomato.
I am recommending a special "post- Solanaceae" sub-chapter. Grief and Loss Counseling will be available. 24/7 A 800 hot line will be in place soon. ALSO I am considering getting crowdfunding thru a "Kickstarter" campaign. Create a new company that specializes in uses for tomato aroma/sprays/oil & unctions Image- Tomato scented candles- BLT scented candles, Slowly simmering tomato sauce w garlic room freshener ETC... The possibilities are endless Would any of you southerns be willing to kick in a few bags of leaf trimming for science? Hi, my name is Cyndi aka Spike2 and I am getting twitchy all ready. These are the last 3 tomatoes off my plants. Only one plant was still alive and doing well and now here come the rains. Not sure how long the poor dear will be able to tread water. Sadly I don't think there is any hope. OMG I NEED REHAB!
